Abstract

A mobile device such as a Bluetooth low energy (BLE) device detects out-of-band blocking signals and manages packet transmission in associated BLE link layer connections based on the detected out-of-band blocking signals. The BLE device is operable to measure out-of-band RSSI to detect out-of-band transmission interferences. The BLE device compares the measured out-of-band RSSI with an out-of-band energy profile such as a LTE energy profile or a WiMAX energy profile to determine the out-of-band blocking signals indicating cadence or periodic out-of-band traffic activities. A remote BLE deice (advertiser) aperiodically or periodically transmits an advertising packet to the BLE device for a specific link layer connection. If not connected within a determined time period, the remote BLE device (advertiser) reduces transmission power for transmitting the advertising packet. The BLE device receives the advertising packet and sends a connection request packet to the remote BLE device (advertiser).

Claims

1. A method of processing signals, the method comprising:

performing by one or more processors and/or circuits in a mobile device;

detecting out-of-band blocking signals; and

managing packet transmission in one or more associated link layer connections based on said detected out-of-band blocking signals.

2. The method according to claim 1, comprising measuring received signal strength indicator (RSSI) in one or more out-of-band channels for said detection.

3. The method according to claim 2, comprising comparing said measured RSSI in said one or more out-of-band channels with an out-of-band energy profile, wherein said out-of-band energy profile comprises a cellular Long-Term Evolution (LTE) energy profile or a Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) energy profile.

4. The method according to claim 3, comprising determining said out-of-band blocking signals based on said comparison.

5. The method according to claim 4, wherein said determined out-of-band blocking signals comprises cadence or periodic traffic activities of said out-of-band blocking signals in said one or more out-of-band channels.

6. The method according to claim 1, wherein said mobile device supports Bluetooth low energy (BLE) technology and/or Bluetooth Basic Rate (BR)/Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) technology.

7. The method according to claim 6, wherein a BLE advertising device aperiodically or periodically transmits an advertising packet to said mobile device for a specific link layer connection when said mobile device is BLE capable.

8. The method according to claim 7, wherein said BLE advertising device reduces transmission power if said specific link layer is not set up within a determined time period.

9. The method according to claim 7, wherein said BLE advertising device aperiodically or periodically transmits said advertising packet using said reduced transmission power for said specific link layer connection.

10. The method according to claim 9, comprising:

receiving said advertising packet in said reduced transmission power; and

setting up said specific link layer connection with said BLE advertising device.

11. A system for processing signals, the system comprising:

one or more processors and/or circuits for use in a mobile device, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to;

detect out-of-band blocking signals; and

manage packet transmission in one or more associated link layer connections based on said detected out-of-band blocking signals.

12. The system according to claim 11, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to measure received signal strength indicator (RSSI) in one or more out-of-band channels for said detection.

The system according to claim 12, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to compare said measured RSSI in said one or more out-of-band channels with an out-of-band energy profile, wherein said out-of-band energy profile comprises a cellular Long-Term Evolution (LTE) energy profile or a Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) energy profile.

14. The system according to claim 13, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to determine said out-of-band blocking signals based on said comparison.

15. The system according to claim 14, wherein said determined out-of-band blocking signals comprises cadence or periodic traffic activities of said out-of-band blocking signals in said one or more out-of-band channels.

16. The system according to claim 11, wherein said mobile device supports Bluetooth low energy (BLE) technology and/or Bluetooth Basic Rate (BR)/Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) technology.

17. The system according to claim 16, wherein a BLE advertising device aperiodically or periodically transmits an advertising packet to said BLE device for a specific link layer connection when said mobile device is BLE capable.

18. The system according to claim 17, wherein said BLE advertising device reduces transmission power if said specific link layer is not set up within a determined time period.

19. The system according to claim 17, wherein said BLE advertising device aperiodically or periodically transmits said advertising packet using said reduced transmission power for said specific link layer connection.

20. The system according to claim 19, wherein:

said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to receive said advertising packet in said reduced transmission power; and

said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to set up said specific link layer connection with said BLE advertising device.
