Abstract

A method and system may include receiving an incoming call from a caller at a mobile device. The call information including one or more of a priority level and a group based on the call; may be received. A call handling rule to apply may be determined based on the call information. It may be determined whether to automatically override the call handling rule based on the call information and an implicit override parameter. Notification may be provided based on the override determination.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving an incoming call from a caller at a mobile device;

obtaining call information including one or more of a priority level and a group based on the call;

determining a call handling rule to apply based on the call information;

determining whether to automatically override the call handling rule based on the call information and an implicit override parameter; and

providing notification based on the override determination.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein determining whether to automatically override the call handling rule based on the call information and an implicit override parameter comprises:

generating the implicit override parameter from information inferred from the call information stored on the mobile device.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein determining whether to automatically override the call handling rule comprises:

generating the implicit override parameter from a call history of previous calls received by the mobile device from the caller.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein determining whether to automatically override the call handling rule comprises:

generating the implicit override parameter from a call history of pervious calls received by the mobile device from the caller, the call history including user behaviors in response to previous calls received by the mobile device from the caller.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein determining whether to automatically override the call handling rule comprises:

generating the implicit override parameter based on a number of times a user of the mobile device answered a previous incoming call from the caller.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein determining whether to automatically override the call handling rule comprises:

generating the implicit override parameter based on a number of times a user of the mobile device ignored a previous incoming call from the caller.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein determining whether to automatically override the call handling rule comprises:

generating the implicit override parameter from information inferred from the call information stored on a remote device.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein receiving call information comprises:

retrieving one or more of the name and relationship of the caller from the mobile device about the caller.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein receiving call information comprises:

retrieving information about the caller inferred from a server over a network connection.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein determining whether to override the call handling rule comprises:

determining whether the caller is on a call override list; and

generating the implicit override parameter from a call history of previous calls received by the mobile device from the caller.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein determining whether to override the call handling rule comprises:

determining whether the priority level of the call exceeds a threshold; and

generating the implicit override parameter from information inferred from the call information stored on the mobile device.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein determining whether to automatically override the call handling rule comprises:

determining whether the caller used an override code; and

generating the implicit override parameter based on a number of times a user of the mobile device ignored a previous incoming call from the caller.

13. The method of claim 1 wherein determining whether to automatically override the call handling rule comprises:

receiving one or more of a password, a PIN and one or more keystrokes.

14. The method of claim 1 wherein determining whether to automatically override the call handling rule comprises:

generating the implicit override parameter based on a location where the call is received.

15. The method of claim 1 wherein providing notification based on the override determination comprises displaying the caller'"'"'s name and phone number.

16. The method of claim 1 wherein providing notification based on the override determination comprises one or more of causing the mobile device to ring and vibrate.

21. The article of claim 1 wherein instructions that when executed enable a system to determine whether to automatically override the call handling rule based on the call information and an implicit override parameter comprise instructions that if executed enable a system to generate the implicit override parameter based on a number of times a user of the mobile device answered a previous incoming call from the caller.

The article of claim 1 wherein instructions that when executed enable a system to determine whether to automatically override the call handling rule based on the call information and an implicit override parameter comprise instructions that if executed enable a system to generate the implicit override parameter based on a number of times a user of the mobile device ignored a previous incoming call from the caller.

17. An article comprising a machine-readable storage medium containing instructions that if executed enable a system to:

receive indication of an incoming call from a caller at a mobile device;

obtain call information including one or more of a priority level and a group based on the call;

determine a call handling rule to apply based on the call information;

determine whether to automatically override the call handling rule based on the call information and an implicit override parameter; and

provide notification based on the override determination.

The article of claim 17 wherein instructions that when executed enable a system to determine whether to automatically override the call handling rule based on the call information and an implicit override parameter comprise instructions that if executed enable a system to generate the implicit override parameter from information inferred from the call information stored on the mobile device.

The article of claim 17 wherein instructions that when executed enable a system to determine whether to automatically override the call handling rule based on the call information and an implicit override parameter comprise instructions that if executed enable a system to generate the implicit override parameter from a call history of previous calls received by the mobile device from the caller.

The article of claim 17 wherein instructions that when executed enable a system to determine whether to automatically override the call handling rule based on the call information and an implicit override parameter comprise instructions that if executed enable a system to generate the implicit override parameter from a call history of pervious calls received by the mobile device from the caller, the call history including user behaviors in response to previous calls received by the mobile device from the caller.

23. A mobile device comprising:

a wireless interface subsystem; and

a processor and memory, the memory including data and instructions to operate the processor to;

receive an incoming call from a caller at a mobile device,

obtain call information,

determine a call handling rule to apply based on the call information,

determine whether to automatically override the call handling rule based on the call information and an implicit override parameter, and

provide notification based on the override determination.

24. The mobile device of claim 23 wherein instructions to operate the processor to determine whether to automatically override the call handling rule based on the call information and an implicit override parameter comprise instructions to operate the processor to:

generate the implicit override parameter from information inferred from the call information stored on the mobile device.

25. The mobile device of claim 23 wherein instructions to operate the processor to determine whether to automatically override the call handling rule based on the call information and an implicit override parameter comprise instructions to operate the processor to:

generate the implicit override parameter from a call history of previous calls received by the mobile device from the caller.

26. The mobile device of claim 23 wherein instructions to operate the processor to determine whether to automatically override the call handling rule based on the call information and an implicit override parameter comprise instructions to operate the processor to:

generate the implicit override parameter from a call history of pervious calls received by the mobile device from the caller, the call history including user behaviors in response to previous calls received by the mobile device from the caller.

27. The mobile device of claim 23 wherein instructions to operate the processor to determine whether to automatically override the call handling rule based on the call information and an implicit override parameter comprise instructions to operate the processor to:

generate the implicit override parameter from information inferred from the call information stored on a remote device.

28. The mobile device of claim 23 wherein instructions to operate the processor to receive call information comprise instructions to operate the processor to:

retrieve information about the caller inferred from a server over a network connection.

29. The mobile device of claim 23 further comprising:

a touchscreen display.
