Abstract

A radio frequency identification (RFID) device including: a circuit provisioned to communicate an identification code to an RFID reader; a first antenna operatively connected to the circuit; and a radiating structure inductive coupled to the first antenna.

Claims

1. A radio frequency identification (RFID) device, said RFID device comprising:

a circuit provisioned to communicate an identification code to an RFID reader;

a first antenna operatively connected to the circuit; and

a radiating structure inductive coupled to the first antenna.

2. The RFID device of claim 1, said RFID further comprising:

an encapsulant that encapsulates the circuit and the first antenna.

3. The RFID device of claim 2, wherein said first antenna is a loop antenna.

4. The RFID device of claim 3, wherein the encapsulant is provisioned with at least one hole formed therein.

5. The RFID device of claim 4, wherein the circuit, first antenna and encapsulant collectively form a button that is sewn onto an apparel item.

6. The RFID device of claim 5, wherein the radiating structure is implemented as one of a conductive thread or a wire that is sewn into the apparel item.

7. The RFID device of claim 6, wherein the circuit is implemented as an integrated circuit (IC).

8. A radio frequency identification (RFID) device for use with apparel, comprising;

an encapsulated RFID device having an antenna and an integrated circuit coupled to the antenna, the encapsulated device being substantially, permanently affixed to an item of apparel;

a patterned of conductive material integrally woven into the item of apparel and positioned adjacent the encapsulated RFID device; and

wherein the pattern of conductive material provides a radiating antenna for the encapsulated RFID device.
