Abstract

A method for formulating products to normalize skin or treat irritated or inflamed skin, a method for normalizing skin or treating irritated or inflamed skin for improvement, and compositions therefor.

Claims

1. A method for making a composition for normalizing skin comprising identifying a plurality of reaction pathways that contribute to skin inflammation, selecting at least one ingredient that inhibits each of the reaction pathways identified, and formulating the ingredients into a composition that when topically applied contributes to normalizing skin.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein from about two to four reaction pathways are identified and at least one ingredient that inhibits each of the pathways identified is selected and formulated into the composition.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein five to seven reaction pathways are identified and at least one ingredient that inhibits each of the pathways identified is selected and formulated into the composition.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein eight to ten reaction pathways are identified and at least one ingredient that inhibits each of the pathways identified is selected and formulated into the composition.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein from about five to eleven or more reaction pathways are identified and at least one ingredient that inhibits each of the pathways identified is selected and formulated into the composition.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the skin to be normalized has one or more of dark under eye circles, skin laxity, wrinkles, fine lines, uneven pigmentation, age spots, or skin pigmentation.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein eight reaction pathways are identified and at least one ingredient that inhibits each of the pathways identified is selected and formulated into the composition.

A method for making a composition for treating irritated or inflamed skin comprising identifying a plurality of reaction pathways that contribute to skin inflammation, selecting at least one ingredient that inhibits each of the reaction pathways identified, and formulating the selected ingredients into a composition that when topically applied contributes to improving the appearance of irritated or inflamed skin.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein from about two to twelve reaction pathways that contribute to skin inflammation are identified, and at least one ingredient that inhibits each of the reaction pathways identified is selected and the ingredients are formulated into the composition.

The method of claim 8 wherein the reactive pathways that contribute to inflammation are selected from (a) Histamine, (b) Phospholipase A2, (c) Lipooxygenase, (d) Cyclooxygenase-2, (e) Chemotaxis, (f) Adhesion, (g) Collagenase, (h) Elastase, (i) Phosphodiesterase, (j) Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor, (k) Histamine Receptor;

and (l) combinations thereof.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein one or more of the ingredients selected to inhibit the one or more of the selected pathways is a botanical.

12. A method for normalizing skin comprising applying to the skin a composition that has been formulated by identifying a plurality of pathways that contribute to inflammation, selecting ingredients that inhibit the pathways identified and formulating the selected ingredients into a composition that provides skin normalizing properties.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein from about two to eleven pathways are identified.

The method of claim 12 wherein the reactive pathways that contribute to inflammation are selected from (a) Histamine, (b) Phospholipase A2, (c) Lipooxygenase, (d) Cyclooxygenase-2, (e) Chemotaxis, (f) Adhesion, (g) Collagenase, (h) Elastase, (i) Phosphodiesterase, (j) Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor, (k) Histamine Receptor;

and (l) combinations thereof.

15. A method for treating irritated or inflamed skin comprising applying to the skin a composition that has been formulated by identifying a plurality of pathways that contribute to skin inflammation, selecting ingredients that inhibit the pathways identified and formulating the ingredients into a composition that ameliorates the adverse effects of skin irritation or inflammation.

The method of claim 15 wherein the reactive pathways that contribute to inflammation are selected from (a) Histamine, (b) Phospholipase A2, (c) Lipooxygenase, (d) Cyclooxygenase-2, (e) Chemotaxis, (f) Adhesion, (g) Collagenase, (h) Elastase, (i) Phosphodiesterase, (j) Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor, (k) Histamine Receptor;

and (l) combinations thereof.

17. A composition for normalizing skin comprising a plurality of ingredients that are selected to inhibit a plurality of pathways that contribute to skin inflammation.

The composition of claim 17 wherein the reactive pathways that contribute to inflammation are selected from (a) Histamine, (b) Phospholipase A2, (c) Lipooxygenase, (d) Cyclooxygenase-2, (e) Chemotaxis, (f) Adhesion, (g) Collagenase, (h) Elastase, (i) Phosphodiesterase, (j) Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor, (k) Histamine Receptor;

and (l) combinations thereof.

19. A composition for treating skin irritation or inflammation comprising a plurality of ingredients that are selected to inhibit a plurality of pathways that contribute to skin inflammation.

The composition of claim 19 wherein the reactive pathways that contribute to inflammation are selected from (a) Histamine, (b) Phospholipase A2, (c) Lipooxygenase, (d) Cyclooxygenase-2, (e) Chemotaxis, (f) Adhesion, (g) Collagenase, (h) Elastase, (i) Phosphodiesterase, (j) Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor, (k) Histamine Receptor;

and (l) combinations thereof.
