Abstract
A digital broadcast transmitting/receiving system and a method for processing data are disclosed. The method for processing data may enhance the receiving performance of the receiving system by performing additional coding and multiplexing processes on the traffic information data and transmitting the processed data. Thus, robustness is provided to the traffic information data, thereby enabling the data to respond strongly against the channel environment which is always under constant and vast change.

37. A broadcast transmitter comprising:

a randomizer for randomizing enhanced data; a first encoder for Reed Solomon (RS) encoding and Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) encoding the randomized enhanced data; a block processor for encoding the RS-CRC encoded enhanced data at a coding rate of 1/H, wherein H is greater than 1; a group formatting unit for generating a data group including the block-processed enhanced data, the data group further includes main data place holders, known data sequences, trellis initialization data, MPEG header place holders, and RS parity data place holders, and de-interleaving the data group; a packet formatter for removing the RS parity data place holders and the main data place holders from the de-interleaved data group and replacing the MPEG header place holders in the de-interleaved data group with MPEG headers, thereby outputting enhanced data packets which include the enhanced data, the known data sequences, the trellis initialization data, and the MPEG header; a first multiplexer for multiplexing the enhanced data packets with main data packets including main data; a second encoder for adding the multiplexed enhanced and main data packets to RS parity data by RS encoding the main data packets with a systematic RS encoding scheme and RS encoding the enhanced data packets with a non-systematic RS encoding scheme; and an interleaver for interleaving the RS-encoded enhanced and main data packets. - View Dependent Claims (38, 39, 40)

41. A method of processing broadcast data in a broadcast transmitter, the method comprising:

randomizing, by a randomizer, enhanced data; Reed Solomon (RS) encoding and Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) encoding, by a first encoder, the randomized enhanced data; encoding, by a block processor, the RS-CRC encoded enhanced data at a coding rate of 1/H, wherein H is greater than 1; generating a data group including the enhanced data encoded at the coding rate of 1/H, the data group further includes main data place holders, known data sequences, trellis initialization data, MPEG header place holders, and RS parity data place holders; de-interleaving the data group; removing, by a packer formatter, the RS parity data place holders and the main data place holders from the de-interleaved data group and replacing the MPEG header place holders in the de-interleaved data group with MPEG headers, thereby outputting enhanced data packets which include the enhanced data, the known data sequences, the trellis initialization data, and the MPEG header; multiplexing the enhanced data packets with main data packets including main data; adding, by a second encoder, the multiplexed enhanced and main data packets to RS parity data by RS encoding the main data packets with a systematic RS encoding scheme and RS encoding the enhanced data packets with a non-systematic RS encoding scheme; and interleaving the RS-encoded enhanced and main data packets. - View Dependent Claims (42, 43, 44)
