Abstract

A gastroscopic method of treating obesity of a patient using a device adapted to stretch a part of the stomach wall of said patient. The method comprising the steps of: inserting said device into the stomach of said patient through the esophagus, placing said device in contact with the stomach wall and fixating said device to the stomach wall such that said device can stretch a part of said stomach wall.

Claims

1. A gastroscopic method of treating obesity of a patient using a device adapted to stretch a part of the stomach wall of said patient, the method comprising the steps of:

a. inserting said device into the stomach of said patient through the esophagus,

b. placing said device in contact with the stomach wall,

c. fixating said device to the stomach wall such that said device can stretch a part of said stomach wall.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the step of fixating said device comprises the steps of:

a. fixating a first portion of said device to a first part of said stomach wall, and

b. fixating a second portion of said device to a second part of said stomach wall.

3. The method according to claim 2, wherein the step of fixating said first and second portion of said device comprises the steps of invaginating said first and second portion with stomach to stomach sutures or staplers.

4. The method according to claim 1, wherein said device is a first device, said method comprising the additional steps of:

a. placing a second device adapted to stretch a portion of the stomach wall in contact with the stomach,

b. fixating said second device to the stomach wall,

c. stretching a first portion of the stomach wall using said first device, and

d. stretching a second part of the stomach wall using said second device.

5. The method according to claim 1, wherein stretching the second portion comprises the step of:

a. time delaying stretching the second part, with a predetermined time delay.

6. The method according to claim 1, wherein said method further comprises the steps of:

a. inserting a gastroscope into the stomach of the patient,

b. pushing a portion of said stomach wall to prepare a pouch on the outside of said stomach,

c. inserting said device into said pouch, placed on the inside of the stomach wall,

d. suturing or stapling to enclose said device in said pouch before or after the insertion of said device into said pouch.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein said method further comprises the steps of:

a. inserting a gastroscope into the stomach of the patient,

b. pulling a portion of said stomach wall to prepare a pouch on the inside of said stomach,

c. creating a hole in said stomach wall into said pouch,

d. inserting said device into said pouch, through said hole in the stomach wall

e. suturing or stapling said pouch, before or after the insertion of the device through said hole.

8. The method according to claim 1, wherein said method further comprises the step of placing a transferring member from said device to a control unit.

9. The method according to claim 8, wherein the step of placing a transferring member comprises the step of placing a fluid transferring member.

10. The method according to claim 8, wherein the step of placing a transferring member comprises the step of placing a transferring member adapted to transfer electrical power.

11. The method according to claim 1, wherein said method further comprises the step of placing said control unit.

12. The method according to claim 11 wherein the step of placing said control unit comprises the step of placing said control unit subcutaneously in said patient.

13. The method according to claim 12, wherein the step of placing said control unit subcutaneously, wherein said method further comprises the step of placing a transferring member from said device to a control unit comprises the steps of:

a. cutting an opening in the abdomen of said patient,

b. connecting said transferring member to said control unit,

c. inserting said control unit into said opening in the skin of said patient, and

d. fixating said control unit subcutaneously.

14. The method according to claim 11, wherein said method further comprises the step of placing a transferring member from said device to a control unit comprises the steps of:

a. cutting an opening in the abdomen of said patient,

b. connecting said transferring member to said control unit,

c. inserting said control unit into said opening in the skin of said patient, to be placed in the abdominal cavity.

15. The method according to claim 14, wherein the step of placing said control unit comprises the steps of:

a. fixating said control unit to the abdominal wall.

Stretching

16. The method according to claim 1, wherein said method comprises the additional step of postoperatively and non-invasively regulating said device to stretch a portion of said stomach wall to affect the appetite of the patient.

17. The method according to claim 2, wherein the step of postoperatively and non-invasively regulating said device to stretch a part of said stomach wall comprises the step of increasing the distance between said first part of said stomach wall and said second part of said stomach wall.

18. The method according to claim 16, wherein the step of regulating said device is performed from outside the patient'"'"'s body.

19. The method according to claim 16, comprising a implantable control unit, wherein the method step of regulating said device comprises regulating said device by said implantable control unit from inside said body.

20. The method according to claim 4, wherein the step of regulating said device comprises from time to time regulate different device to at a first time stretch a first portion of the stomach wall and at a second time stretch a second portion of the stomach wall.
