Abstract

In some embodiments, a technique for providing location-based functionality comprises providing functionality, wherein the functionality uses information provided by a location-aware device.

Claims

1. A method for associating tasks with a location, comprising:

providing a task;

providing a completion location;

wherein the task may be completed at the completion location;

associating the completion location with the task; and

storing the task with the associated completion location.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the task is specified by a user.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the task is automatically generated.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the completion location is specified by a user.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the completion location is automatically generated.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein providing the completion location comprises:

matching the task with a previous task, wherein the previous task has been completed; and

using a location associated with the previous task to determine a completion location for the task.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein using a location associated with the previous task includes using a completion location associated with the previous task as the completion location.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein using a location associated with the previous task includes using a location visited prior to the completion of the previous task as the completion location.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein providing the completion location comprises:

determining a category for the task;

selecting a completion location to provide;

wherein the completion location is associated with the category.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein determining a category for the task includes matching text in a description of the task against a predetermined pattern, wherein the predetermined pattern is characteristic of the category.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein determining a category for the task includes comparing a the description of the task with a description of a previously completed task, wherein the previously completed task is associated with a category.

12. The method of claim 9, wherein determining a category for the task includes using a text classifier.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the text classifier is a Bayesian classifier.

14. A method for displaying a completion location, comprising:

providing a task;

selecting a completion location;

wherein the completion location is associated with the task; and

displaying the completion location.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein providing the task comprises:

providing a spatial specification; and

selecting the task;

wherein the task conforms to the spatial specification.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein displaying the completion location includes overlaying a visual indicator on a map.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the visual indicator is an icon.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein the visual indicator is a textual description of the task.

19. The method of claim 14, wherein displaying the completion location includes displaying a textual description of the task.

20. The method of claim 14, wherein displaying the completion location includes providing an audible message.
