Abstract

One embodiment of the present invention is a method of migrating functionality to a target virtualized mobile device including virtualization software that supports one or more virtual machines, the method including: (a) embodying the functionality in a virtual machine; and (b) migrating the virtual machine to the target virtualized mobile device.

Claims

1. A method of migrating functionality to a target virtualized mobile device comprised of virtualization software that supports one or more virtual machines, the method comprising:

embodying the functionality in a virtual machine; and

migrating the virtual machine to the target virtualized mobile device.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein:

embodying comprises;

serializing the virtual machine embodying the functionality;

and migrating comprises;

selecting the target mobile device;

transferring the serialized virtualized machine to the target mobile device.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein the functionality is a telephone functionality and wherein migrating further comprises:

reprogramming an SIM chip in the target virtualized mobile device to receive calls at the target mobile device.

4. The method of claim 2 wherein:

the functionality is a telephone functionality, and migrating comprises migrating from a source virtualized mobile device; and

serializing comprises virtualizing the SIM chip of the source virtualized mobile device.

5. The method of claim 2 wherein:

the functionality is a telephone functionality, and migrating comprises migrating from a source virtualized mobile device; and

a service provider redirecting calls only to the target virtualized mobile device.

6. The method of claim 2 wherein:

the functionality is a telephone functionality, and migrating comprises migrating from a source virtualized mobile device;

migrating includes transferring the serialized virtual machine the source virtualized mobile device to an intermediary; and

the intermediary transferring the serialized virtual machine to the target mobile device.

7. A method of installing functionality on a virtualized mobile comprised of virtualization software that supports one or more virtual machines, the method comprising, the method comprising:

accessing a web site;

entering a passcode associated with a predetermined virtual machine embodying the functionality;

receiving a message with a communications link to the predetermined virtual machine; and

loading and installing the virtual machine.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein the communications link identifies the accessor.
