Abstract

A recording and playback apparatus capable of recording and playing back a content downloaded from a server, includes a recording unit configured to download the content with a playback time limit, stored in a server and record the content to a recording medium, an instruction receiver configured to receive an instruction for starting playback of the content, a playback unit configured to play back the content recorded in the recording medium in accordance with the instruction received by the instruction receiver, and a warning output unit configured to output warning information related to the playback time limit of the content before the playback unit stars playback of the content, when the instruction receiver receives the instruction for starting playback of the content during download of the content.

Claims

1. A recording and playback apparatus capable of recording and playing back a content downloaded from a server, comprising:

a recording unit configured to download the content with a playback time limit, stored in a server and record the content to a recording medium;

an instruction receiver configured to receive an instruction for starting playback of the content;

a playback unit configured to play back the content recorded in the recording medium in accordance with the instruction received by the instruction receiver; and

a warning output unit configured to output warning information related to the playback time limit of the content before the playback unit starts playback of the content, when the instruction receiver receives the instruction for starting playback of the content during download of the content.

2. The recording and playback apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the warning information includes means for allowing a user to select start or cancel of playback of the content.

3. A recording and playback apparatus capable of recording a content downloaded from a server to a recording medium and playing back the content, comprising:

a recording unit configured to record the content downloaded from the server to the recording medium;

an instruction receiver configured to receive an instruction for starting playback of the content;

a playback unit configured to play back the content recorded in the recording medium in accordance with the instruction received by the instruction receiver;

a connection confirming unit configured to determine, at a predetermined timing, whether the recording and playback apparatus is connected to a network system containing the server; and

a warning output unit configured to output warning information notifying that the recording and playback apparatus has to be connected to the network system if a result of determination by the connection confirming unit indicates that the recording and playback apparatus is not connected to the network system, when the instruction receiver receives the instruction for starting playback of the content.

4. The recording and playback apparatus according to claim 3, wherein when a predetermined time does not pass since it is determined last that the recording and playback apparatus is connected to the network system,

the warning output unit does not output the warning information even though the result of determination by the connection confirming unit indicates that the recording and playback apparatus is not connected to the network system, and

the playback unit starts playback of the content in accordance with the instruction received by the instruction receiver.

5. The recording and playback apparatus according to claim 3, wherein the predetermined timing is when the recording and playback apparatus is powered on.

6. The recording and playback apparatus according to claim 3, wherein the predetermined timing is when the playback of the content is started.

7. The recording and playback apparatus according to claim 3, wherein the predetermined timing is a timing having a predetermined cycle.
