Abstract

Methods, apparatus, and computer program products for changing alert setting of a communication device are provided. An operative connection of a communication device to a connected device is detected. Based on the operative connection to the connected device, it is determined whether an alert setting for the communication device should be changed. In response to determining that the alert setting should be changed, the alert setting for the communication device is automatically changed. The connected device is a network interface, a power adapter, and/or a headset

Claims

1. A method for changing alert setting of a communication device, comprising:

detecting an operative connection of a communication device to a connected device;

based on the operative connection to the connected device, determining whether an alert setting for the communication device should be changed; and

in response to determining that the alert setting should be changed, automatically changing the alert setting for the communication device;

wherein the connected device is at least one of a network interface, a power adapter, and a headset.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein when the connected device is the network interface, causing an alert of a communication to the communication device to be provided through the network interface.

The method of claim 2, further comprising in response to a lighting system being connected to the network interface, causing the alert of the communication to be provided by at least one of flashing lights of the lighting system, turning on lights of the lighting system, turning off lights of the lighting system, and turning on a particular color light of the lighting system.

4. The method of claim 2, in response to an intercommunication system being connected to the network interface, causing the alert of the communication to be provided through the intercommunication system.

5. The method of claim 1, in response to uninterruptible programming being displayed on a display device, automatically setting the alert setting to non-audible.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the connected device is the headset;

further comprising in response to the operative connection to the headset, automatically setting the alert setting of the communication device to;

speak at least one of a name, telephone number, and Internet Protocol (IP) address identifying a caller through the headset; and

provide an alert message through the headset.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein when the connected device is the headset, at least one of:

automatically changing the alert setting from a ring to a beep;

automatically changing the alert setting from the ring to a voice message indicating that a communication is received at the communication device;

automatically changing the alert setting from the ring to speaking at least one of a name, telephone number, and IP address identifying a sender of the communication; and

wherein the ring comprises at least one of an audible ringer, a ring tone, and musical jingle.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein when the connected device is the power adapter, automatically changing the alert setting from a non-audible setting to an audible setting.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

in response to the network interface being configured to control at least one of a lighting system, an intercommunication system, and a display device, causing the network interface to provide an alert through the at least one of the lighting system, the intercommunication system, and the display device.

10. A method for changing an alert setting of a communication device, comprising:

receiving a notification at a communication device;

in response to receiving the notification, at least one of;

automatically changing an alert setting of the communication device from a non-audible setting to an audible setting; and

automatically increasing a volume of the audible setting;

11. The method of claim 10, wherein receiving the notification comprises at least one of:

receiving an indication that a power source is connected;

receiving an indication of no movement of the communication device; and

receiving an indication of no movement near the communication device.

12. The method of claim 10, wherein increasing the volume of the audible setting comprises incrementally increasing the volume based on at least one of each missed communication to the communication device and a period of time.

13. A method for changing an alert setting of a communication device, comprising:

determining that there is no motion, wherein no motion comprises at least one of;

recognizing that there is no motion around a communication device and recognizing that there is no motion of the communication device;

determining whether a period of time for no motion meets a threshold; and

in response to the period of time for no motion meeting the threshold, automatically changing an alert setting of the communication device from a non-audible setting to an audible setting.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising in response to the alert setting already being the audible setting, incrementally increasing a volume of the audible setting.

15. The method of claim 13, further comprising in response to the period of time for no motion meeting the threshold, at least one of changing a delivery method for an alert and adding a delivery method for the alert.

16. A communication device configured to change an alert setting for the communication device, comprising:

an alerter module configured to automatically change an alert setting of a communication device;

a processor responsive to computer-executable instructions of the alerter module;

in response to the alerter module receiving at least one of;

a notification related to motion, the alerter module configured to automatically change the alert setting;

a notification related to uninterruptible programming, the alerter module configured to automatically change the alert setting; and

a notification related to an operative connection to a network interface, the alerter module configured to automatically change the alert setting.

17. The communication device of claim 16, wherein the notification related to motion indicates at least one of no movement for the communication device for a period of time and no movement near the communication device for a period of time.

18. The communication device of claim 16, wherein receiving the notification related to uninterruptible programming causes the alerter module to automatically change the alert setting to a non-audible setting for a duration for the uninterruptible programming.

19. The communication device of claim 18, further comprising in response to the alerter module receiving a notification indicating that the duration has concluded for the uninterruptible programming, the alerter module automatically changing the alert setting to a previous setting.

20. A computer program product, tangibly embodied on a computer readable medium, the computer program product including instructions for causing a computer to execute a method for changing an alert setting of a communication device, comprising:

determining that there is no motion, wherein no motion comprises at least one of;

recognizing that there is no motion around a communication device and recognizing that there is no motion of the communication device;

determining whether a period of time for no motion meets a threshold; and

in response to the period of time for no motion meeting the threshold, automatically changing an alert setting of the communication device from a non-audible setting to an audible setting.
