Abstract

A cushion pad for a mask worn by a patient, comprising a first side to contact skin of the patient, and a second side, opposite the first side, to contact or face the mask. The pad has a main body portion having a central portion shaped to cover a portion of the patient'"'"'s nose extending from above the nose tip to the nasal bridge region without obstructing the patient'"'"'s line of sight, and lateral side portions to extend downward and terminate along the sides of the nose or on the patient'"'"'s cheeks. The main body is made of a breathable material, e.g., foam. The pad may include adhesive and/or an attached portion, e.g., a ring, to couple the pad to the patient and/or portion of the mask.

Claims

1. A cushion pad for a mask worn by a patient, comprising:

a first side to contact skin of the patient, and

a second side, opposite the first side, to contact or face the mask, the pad having a main body portion having a central portion shaped to cover a portion of the patient'"'"'s nose extending from above the nose tip to the nasal bridge region without obstructing the patient'"'"'s line of sight, and lateral side portions to extend downward and terminate along the sides of the nose or on the patient'"'"'s cheeks, the main body being made of a breathable material.

2. The cushion pad according to claim 1, wherein the breathable material comprises foam.

3. The cushion pad according to claim 1, wherein the pad is generally longer than it is wide.

4. The cushion pad according to claim 1, wherein the pad is generally elliptical, rectangular or trilobular.

5. The cushion pad according to claim 1, wherein the central portion includes a peak and is adapted to cover part of the of nasal bridge region that tends to suffer the most discomfort or damage.

6. The cushion pad according to claim 5, wherein the peak is shaped so as to avoid obstructing the patient'"'"'s line of sight.

7. The cushion pad according to claim 5, wherein the pad has a trough so as to avoid the pad extending past the end of the patient'"'"'s nose when in use.

8. The cushion pad according to claim 7, wherein the trough has a radius of about 20 mm to 40 nm.

9. The cushion pad according to claim 8, wherein the trough and peak are shaped such that the pad can be easily nested when manufactured.

10. The cushion pad according to claim 1, wherein the pad has a width of about 5 mm to 60 mm.

11. The cushion pad according to claim 1, wherein the pad has a width of about 75 mm to 130 mm.

12. The cushion pad according to claim 1, wherein the pad has a length of about 10 mm to 200 mm.

13. The cushion pad according to claim 1, wherein the pad has a length of about 155 mm to 205 mm.

14. The cushion pad according to claim 1, wherein the pad has a thickness of about 1 to 15 mm.

15. The cushion pad according to claim 14, wherein the thickness of pad is constant along the length of the pad.

16. The cushion pad according to claim 14, wherein the thickness of the pad is variable along its length and/or height.

17. The cushion pad according to claim 1, wherein a size of the pad is adjustable.

18. The cushion pad according to claim 1, wherein the pad includes an adhesive.

19. The cushion pad according to claim 18, wherein the adhesive is provided at its distal ends.

20. The cushion pad according to claim 18, herein the adhesive is provided on the first side to contact the patient'"'"'s skin.

21. The cushion pad according to claim 18, wherein the adhesive is provided on the second side to contact the mask directly.

22. The cushion pad according to claim 18, further comprising a release liner to cover the adhesive prior to use.

23. The cushion pad according to claim 1, wherein the pad is constructed from a flexible material.

24. The cushion pad according to claim 1, wherein the pad comprises foam, fabric, gel, and/or thermoplastic elastomer.

25. The cushion pad according to claim 1, further comprising an attachment portion to attach to the mask.

26. The cushion pad according to claim 25, wherein the attachment portion comprises a ring.

27. The cushion pad according to claim 26, wherein the ring is generally round in shape.

28. The cushion pad according to claim 27, wherein the ring has an inner diameter of about 14-18 mm, and an outer diameter of about 40-44 mm.

29. The cushion pad according to claim 25, wherein the attachment portion is attached to a forehead support of the mask, or a joining portion that connects the forehead support to the mask.

30. The cushion pad according to claim 25, further comprising a connecting portion to connect the attachment portion to the central portion.

31. The cushion pad according to claim 30, wherein the connecting portion, attachment portion and main body portion are formed in one piece.

32. The cushion pad according to claim 1, further comprising at least one forehead support pad cover to cover at least a portion of a forehead support pad of a forehead support of the mask.

33. The cushion pad according to claim 32, wherein the forehead support pad cover has a width of about 25 mm to 40 mm.

34. The cushion pad according to claim 32, wherein the forehead support pad cover includes connecting regions to join an attachment portion to attach to the mask and the central portion.

35. A mask comprising:

a cushion and the cushion pad of claim 1, wherein the cushion has a first portion to form a seal with the patient'"'"'s skin, and a second portion to seal with the cushion pad in use.

36. A cushion pad for a mask worn by a patient, comprising:

a first side to contact skin of the patient, a second side, opposite the first side, to contact the mask, the pad having a main body portion including a central portion shaped to cover the nasal bridge region of the patient, the main body portion having an attachment portion to attach the cushion pad to the mask.

37. The cushion pad according to claim 36, wherein the attachment portion comprises a ring.

38. The cushion pad according to claim 37, wherein the ring is generally round or oval in shape.

39. The cushion pad according to claim 38, wherein the ring has an inner diameter of about 14-18 mm, and an outer diameter of about 40-44 mm.

40. The cushion pad according to claim 36, wherein the attachment portion is attachable to a forehead support of the mask, or a joining portion that connects the forehead support to the mask, or a headgear clip and/or headgear of the mask.

41. The cushion pad according to claim 36, further comprising a connecting portion to connect the attachment portion to the central portion.

42. The cushion pad according to claim 41, wherein the connecting portion, attachment portion and main body portion are formed in one piece.

43. The cushion pad according to claim 36, further comprising at least one forehead support pad cover to cover at least a portion of a forehead support pad of a forehead support of the mask.

44. The cushion pad according to claim 43, wherein the forehead support pad cover has a width of about 25 mm to 40 mm.

45. The cushion pad according to claim 43, wherein the forehead support pad cover includes connecting regions to join the attachment portion and the central portion.

46. The cushion pad according to claim 43, wherein the forehead support panel cover includes detachable side portions.

47. The cushion pad according to claim 43, wherein the forehead support pad cover and attachment portion are detachable from the central portion.

48. A mask comprising:

a cushion and the cushion pad of claim 36,

wherein the cushion has a first portion to form a seal with the patient'"'"'s skin, and a second portion to seal with the cushion pad in use.

49. A cushion pad for a mask worn by a patient, comprising:

a first side to contact skin of the patient, and

a second side, opposite the first side, to contact or face the mask, the pad having a main body portion having a central portion shaped to cover a portion of the patient'"'"'s nose extending from above the nose tip to the nasal bridge region without obstructing the patient'"'"'s line of sight, and lateral side portions to extend downward along the sides of the nose, the main body being made of a conformable material.

50. The cushion pad according to claim 49, wherein the main body includes a horizontal portion connecting the lateral side portions.

51. The cushion pad according to claim 50, wherein the horizontal portion is adapted to extend over the upper lip or below the lower lip or on the chin of the patient.

52. The cushion pad according to claim 49, further comprising an attachment portion to attach to headgear clips or headgear of the mask.

53. The cushion pad according to claim 52, wherein the attachment portion is in the form of an extension or wing that extends from the lateral side portions and/or a horizontal portion connecting the lateral side portions.

54. The cushion pad according to claim 52, wherein the extension or wing includes an elongated aperture or slit.

55. The cushion pad according to claim 49, wherein the main body defines an aperture to receive the patient'"'"'s nose and/or mouth.

56. A mask comprising:

a cushion and the mask pad of claim 49, wherein the mask pad has a shape that substantially matches a shape of a sealing portion of the cushion.

57. The cushion pad according to claim 49, wherein the mask pad is thermoformed, molded, machined, stitched, die cut and/or compression cut.
