METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MONITORING POWER TRANSMISSION

1. An apparatus for measurement of power in an electric power transmission line comprising:
- a first electromagnetic sensor for measuring the electromagnetic field at the electric power transmission line and transmitting electromagnetic data to a processor, wherein the first electromagnetic sensor is arranged proximate to but at a distance from the electric power transmission line;
a second electromagnetic sensor arranged distally from the first electromagnetic sensor for transmitting second electromagnetic data to the processor;
a clock; and
a transfer function calculator for calculating the relationship between the first electromagnetic data and the second electromagnetic data.

Abstract
An apparatus (10) for measurement of power in an electric power transmission line (20) is disclosed. The apparatus (10) comprises a magnetic field sensor (30) for measuring the magnetic field (35) at the electric power transmission line (20) and transmitting magnetic field data (37) to a processor (40). The magnetic field sensor (30) is arranged proximate to but at a distance from the electric power transmission line (20). The apparatus (10) also has a voltage sensor (50) arranged distally from the magnetic field sensor (30) for transmitting voltage waveform data (55) to the processor (40) and a transfer function calculator (60) for calculating the relationship between the transmitted voltage waveform data at the voltage sensor (50) and transmission line voltage waveform data (55). A method for measurement of power in an electric power transmission line (20) is also disclosed and comprises measuring the magnetic field (35) about the electric power transmission line (20) proximate to but at a distance from the electric power transmission line (20), measuring a distal voltage waveform (55) distally from the electric power transmission line (20), calculating a transmission line voltage waveform data from the distal voltage waveform (55) and calculating the power in the electric power transmission line (20) from the transmission line voltage waveform data and the magnetic field data (37).

10. A processor for calculating the power in an electric power transmission line comprising:

a first analysis unit for accepting first electromagnetic data relating to an electromagnetic field of the electric power transmission line at a first position; second analysis unit for accepting second electromagnetic data measured at a second position, the second position being distal from the first position; and a transfer function calculator for calculating the relationship between the first electromagnetic data and the second electromagnetic data.

11. A method for measurement of power in an electric power transmission line comprising:

measuring an electromagnetic field about the electric power transmission line proximate to but at a distance from the electric power transmission line; measuring a distal electromagnetic waveform distally from the electric power transmission line; calculating a transmission line electromagnetic waveform data from the distal electromagnetic waveform; and calculating the power in the electric power transmission line from the transmission line electromagnetic waveform data and the electromagnetic field data.

12. A method for measurement of power in an electric power transmission line comprising:

a measuring the electromagnetic field about the electric power transmission line proximate to but at a distance from the electric power transmission line; and calculating the voltage waveform and/or current waveform at the electric power transmission line from the measured electromagnetic field; and analysing the current waveform to determine the power in the electric power transmission line.

13. A method for establishing a transfer function over an electric power transmission line between a first point and a second point
measuring changes in one of a magnetic field or a voltage against time at a first point; -

17. A method for monitoring an electric power transmission network having a plurality of electric power transmission lines comprising:
