Abstract

A door assembly includes a first door skin and a second door skin spaced apart from the first door skin. The assembly also includes an energy sensor generating an energy signature signal and a memory storing a door component operating signature. A controller is coupled to the accelerometer and forms a comparison of the energy signature signal to the door component operating signature and generates a door component operation status signal in response to the comparison.

Claims

1. A door assembly comprising:

a first door skin;

a second door skin spaced apart from the first door skin;

an energy sensor generating an energy signature signal;

a memory storing a door component operating signature;

a controller coupled to the energy sensor and forms a comparison of the energy signature signal to the door component operating signature and generates a door component operation status signal in response to the comparison.

2. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the energy sensor comprises an accelerometer.

3. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the energy sensor comprises a multi-axis accelerometer.

4. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the energy sensor is disposed between the first door skin and the second door skin.

5. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the energy sensor, the memory and the controller are disposed between the first door skin and the second door skin.

6. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the energy sensor and the memory are disposed between the first door skin and the second door skin.

7. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the energy sensor and memory are disposed with the door assembly, and the controller is disposed in another location from the sensor and memory.

8. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the energy sensor is disposed within a door operator assembly.

9. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the energy sensor and memory are disposed within a door operator assembly.

10. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the door component operation status signal corresponds to an improperly adjusted operator assembly.

11. A door assembly as recited in claim 10 where the improperly adjusted door operator assembly comprises a high swing speed.

12. A door assembly as recited in claim 10 wherein the improperly adjusted door operator assembly comprises a low swing speed.

13. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the door component operation status signal corresponds to a door position.

14. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the door component operation status signal corresponds to a latch status.

15. A door assembly as recited in claim 14 wherein the latch status comprises a latch stop not aligned with the door.

16. A door assembly as recited in claim 14 wherein the latch status comprises a latch not securely latching.

17. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the door component operation status signal corresponds to a hinge status.

18. A door assembly as recited in claim 17 wherein the hinge status comprises a hinge squeaking.

19. A door assembly as recited in claim 17 wherein the hinge status comprises a hinge binding.

20. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the door component operation status signal corresponds to a door clearance.

21. A door assembly as recited in claim 20 wherein the door clearance comprises a door-to-frame clearance.

22. A door assembly as recited in claim 20 wherein the door clearance comprises a door-to ground clearance.

23. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the door component operation status signal corresponds to a virtual force applied to the door.

24. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the door component operation status signal corresponds to an abuse of the door.

25. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the door component operation status signal corresponds to an operating condition of an adjacent door.

26. A system comprising:

a door assembly as recited in claim 1;

a central controller in communication with the controller.

27. A system as recited in claim 26 wherein the central controller generates a graphical user interface.

28. A system as recited in claim 27 wherein the graphical user interface comprises a compliance indicator.

29. A system as recited in claim 27 wherein the graphical user interface comprises a door status indicator.

30. A system as recited in claim 27 further comprising a manufacturer controller in communication with the central controller.

31. A method comprising:

generating an energy signature signal during door operation;

comparing the energy signature signal to a door component operating signature; and

generating a door component operation status signal in response to comparing.

32. A method as recited in claim 31 further comprising generating a sensor signal and filtering the sensor signal to form the energy signature signal.

33. A method as recited in claim 31 wherein comparing comprises comparing the energy signal to a plurality of door component operating signature patterns.

34. A method as recited in claim 31 wherein generating a door component operation status signal comprises generating the door component operation status signal corresponding to an improperly adjusted door operator assembly.

35. A method as recited in claim 34 wherein the improperly adjusted door operator assembly comprises a high swing speed.

36. A method as recited in claim 34 wherein the improperly adjusted door operator assembly comprises a low swing speed.

37. A method as recited in claim 34 wherein generating a door component operation status signal comprises generating the door component operation status signal corresponding to a door position.

38. A method as recited in claim 34 wherein generating a door component operation status signal comprises generating the door component operation status signal corresponding to a latch status.

39. A method as recited in claim 38 wherein the latch status comprises a latch stop not aligned with the door.

40. A method as recited in claim 38 wherein the latch status comprises a latch not securely latching.

41. A method as recited in claim 34 wherein generating a door component operation status signal comprises generating the door component operation status signal corresponding to a hinge status.

42. A method as recited in claim 41 wherein the hinge status comprises a hinge squeaking.

43. A method as recited in claim 41 wherein the hinge status comprises a hinge binding.

44. A method as recited in claim 31 wherein generating a door component operation status signal comprises generating the door component operation status signal corresponding to a door clearance.

45. A method as recited in claim 44 wherein the door clearance comprises a door-to-frame clearance.

46. A method as recited in claim 44 wherein the door clearance comprises a door-to ground clearance.

47. A method as recited in claim 44 further comprising communicating the door operation signal to a central controller.

48. A method as recited in claim 47 further comprising generating a compliance indication within the graphical user interface based on the door component operation status signal.

49. A method as recited in claim 47 further comprising generating a maintenance indication within the graphical user interface.
