Abstract

A dispersion that includes at least one organic solvent; nanoparticles, wherein the nanoparticles are infrared absorptive, conductive or a both infrared absorptive and conductive; and at least one polycaprolactone-polyamine copolymer, wherein the dispersion comprises agglomerates of the nanoparticles and a majority of the agglomerates have an average diameter that are not greater than 100 nanometers. Compositions, films, articles and light control articles that utilize such dispersions are also discussed.

Claims

1. A dispersion comprising:

about 10 wt % to about 95 wt % of at least one organic solvent based on the total weight of the dispersion;

about 5 wt % to about 80 wt % of nanoparticles based on the total weight of the dispersion, wherein the nanoparticles are infrared absorptive, conductive or both infrared absorptive and conductive; and

about 0.5 wt % to about 50 wt % of at least one polycaprolactone-polyamine copolymer based on the total weight of the dispersion,

wherein the dispersion comprises agglomerates of the nanoparticles and a majority of the agglomerates have an average diameter that is not greater than 100 nanometers.

2. The dispersion according to claim 1, wherein a majority of the agglomerates have an average diameter that is not greater than 60 nanometers.

3. The dispersion according to claim 1, wherein a majority of the agglomerates have an average diameter that is not greater than 50 nanometers.

4. The dispersion according to claim 1 comprising about 25 wt % of at least one organic solvent based on the total weight of the dispersion.

5. The dispersion according to claim 1, wherein the at least one organic solvent is methyl ethyl ketone, 1-methoxy-2-propanol, or a combination thereof.

6. The dispersion according to claim 1 comprising about 60 wt % to about 70 wt % of nanoparticles based on the total weight of the dispersion.

7. The dispersion according to claim 1, wherein the nanoparticles comprise metal oxide particles.

8. The dispersion according to claim 7, wherein the metal oxide particles comprise antimony tin oxide, indium tin oxide, or combinations thereof.

9. The dispersion according to claim 7, wherein the metal oxide particles have an average diameter from about 10 nanometers to about 20 nanometers.

10. The dispersion according to claim 1, wherein the nanoparticles are particles coated with antimony tin oxide, indium tin oxide, or combinations thereof.

11. The dispersion according to claim 1 comprising from about 5 wt % to about 25 wt % of at least one polycaprolactone-polyamine copolymer based on the total weight of the dispersion.

12. The dispersion according to claim 1 comprising from about 12.5 wt % to about 17.5 wt % of at least one polycaprolactone-polyamine copolymer based on the total weight of the dispersion.

13. The dispersion according to claim 1, wherein the dispersion is stable at about 60°

C. for at least one month.

The dispersion according to claim 1 wherein the dispersion comprises from about 0.5 wt % to about 10 wt % of the at least one polycaprolactone-polyamine copolymer based on the weight of the nanoparticles, and further comprises from about 0.5 wt % to about 20 wt % of at least one amine modified acrylate based on the weight of the nanoparticles.

15. The dispersion according to claim 11, wherein the dispersion comprises not more than 5 wt % of polycaprolactone-polyamine copolymer based on the weight of the nanoparticles.

16. The dispersion according to claim 11, wherein the dispersion comprises not more than 6 wt % of polycaprolactone-polyamine copolymer based on the weight of the nanoparticles.

17. The dispersion according to claim 11, wherein the dispersion comprises not more than 8 wt % of polycaprolactone-polyamine copolymer based on the weight of the nanoparticles.

18. A composition comprising:

about 40 wt % to about 50 wt % of a dispersion, the dispersion comprising;

about 10 wt % to about 95 wt % of at least one organic solvent based on the total weight of the dispersion;

about 5 wt % to about 80 wt % of nanoparticles based on the total weight of the dispersion, wherein the nanoparticles are infrared absorptive, conductive or both infrared absorptive and conductive; and

about 0.5 wt % to about 50 wt % of at least one polycaprolactone-polyamine copolymer based on the total weight of the dispersion,

wherein the dispersion comprises agglomerates of the nanoparticles and a majority of the agglomerates have an average diameter that is not greater than 100 nanometers; and

about 10 wt % to about 50 wt % of at least one radiation curable monomer based on the total weight of the composition.

19. The composition according to claim 18 further comprising about 1 wt % to about 50 wt % of a second organic solvent based on the total weight of the composition.

20. The composition according to claim 18 wherein the composition comprises from about 13 wt % to about 17 wt % of at least one radiation curable monomer based on the total weight of the composition.

21. The composition according to claim 19 comprising from about 30 wt % to about 40 wt % of the second organic solvent.

22. A film comprising:

about 40 wt % to about 70 wt % nanoparticles based on the total weight of the film, wherein the nanoparticles are infrared absorptive or conductive;

about 20 wt % to about 40 wt % of a radiation curable monomer based on the total weight of the film; and

about 5 wt % to about 20 wt % of a polycaprolactone-polyamine copolymer based on the total weight of the film,

wherein the film has a visible light transmission of at least 40%, and a haze value of not more than about 3%.
