Abstract

The present invention relates to use of anti-S1P antibodies in combination with chemotherapeutic agents for treatment and/or prevention of cancer, tumor growth, metastasis and/or growth of metastatic tumors.

Claims

1. A method selected from the group consisting of:

a. a method for treating cancer, comprising administering to an animal suffering from cancer a chemotherapeutic agent and an antibody which is targeted to S1P;

b. a method for inhibiting tumor growth in an animal having a tumor, comprising administering to the animal a chemotherapeutic agent and an antibody which is targeted to S1P;

c. a method for inhibiting tumor metastasis in an animal having a tumor, comprising administering to the animal a chemotherapeutic agent and an antibody which is targeted to S1P; and

d. a method for inhibiting the growth of metastatic tumors in an animal having cancer comprising administering to the animal a chemotherapeutic agent and an antibody which is targeted to S1P.

2. A method according to claim 1 wherein the chemotherapeutic agent is an antimitotic agent.

3. A method according to claim 1 wherein the animal is a human.

4. A method according to claim 1 wherein the chemotherapeutic agent is administered in a first composition and the antibody targeted to S1P is administered in a second composition.

5. A method according to claim 1 that further comprises surgery and/or radiation to treat cancer.

6. A kit comprising a container that includes a composition comprising an antibody targeted to S1P and a label containing directions for performing a method in a patient diagnosed with cancer, wherein the method comprises a combination therapy that includes administering a therapeutically effective amount of the antibody targeted to S1P and a chemotherapeutic agent.

7. A kit according to claim 6, wherein the method is selected from the group consisting of:

a. a method for inhibiting tumor growth;

b. a method for inhibiting tumor metastasis; and

c. a method for inhibiting the growth of metastatic tumors.

8. A kit according to claim 6 further comprising a composition comprising the chemotherapeutic agent.
