1. A sensor module for detecting movement of a subject, comprising:
- a housing sized for placement against or in proximity to the subject and having a chamber defined therein;
a sensor comprising an ionic polymer metal composite which generates an electrical signal when disturbed and which is positioned in communication with the housing; and
,a transmissive medium contained within the chamber and in fluid communication with the sensor such that a vibration from the subject is transmitted through the medium and against the sensor.

Abstract
A motion detection system for detecting movement and/or breathing from a subject, e.g., for preventing SIDS, can incorporate a sensor in communication with a fluid-filled chamber while optionally combining audio and/or video monitoring systems. The sensor module may have a housing which can be attached, e.g., to an article of clothing worn by the subject. The sensor may be entirely enclosed within the housing which may also be filled with a vibrationally transmissive medium which transmits movements from the subject such that these signals impinge upon the sensor which captures these signals (or the absence of these signals) for processing and possibly alerting a parent or caretaker.

21. A method of detecting movement from a subject, comprising:

positioning a housing against or in proximity to the subject, where the housing has a chamber defined therein and a sensor comprising an ionic polymer metal composite which generates an electrical signal when disturbed and which is contained at least partially within the housing; transmitting a movement from the subject as a vibration through a transmissive medium contained within the chamber and in fluid communication with the sensor such that the vibration impinges against the sensor; generating an electric signal from the sensor indicative of the movement by the subject; and

34. A sleep positioner configured for detecting movement of a subject, comprising:
