Abstract

Systems and methods for managing cached content are disclosed. More particularly, embodiments disclosed herein may allow cached content to be updated (e.g. regenerated or replaced) in response to a notification. Specifically, embodiments disclosed herein may process a notification pertaining to content stored in a cache. Processing the notification may include locating cached content associated with the notification. After the cached content which corresponds to the notification is found, an appropriate action may be taken. For example, the cached content may be flushed from the cache or a request may be regenerated. As a result of the action, new content is generated. This new content is then used to replace or update the cached content.

Claims

1. A method for cache management, comprising:

processing a notification at a server computer having access to a cache,

wherein the notification comprises a generated event,

wherein the generated event comprises values associated with a set of criteria,

wherein the processing of the notification comprises locating cached content associated with the notification,

wherein the locating comprises comparing the values associated with the set of criteria with metadata stored in the cache in association with the cached content;

after the cached content which corresponds to the notification is found, performing an action with respect to the cached content,

wherein the action comprises flushing the cached content from the cache or regenerating a request utilizing the metadata stored in the cache in association with the cached content,

wherein new content is generated as a result of the action; and

storing the new content in the cache to replace the cached content.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the flushing causes the new content to be generated in response to a new request for content.

3. The method according to claim 2, wherein the new content is responsive to the new request.

4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the regenerating comprises invoking a component to generate the new content.

5. The method according to claim 4, wherein the component comprises a rule configured to select content from a data store based on the values associated with the set of criteria.

6. The method according to claim 5, wherein the notification is issued by an application manager.

7. The method according to claim 6, wherein the component is selected by the application manager.

8. The method according to claim 1, wherein the notification is processed by a cache manager.

9. A computer program product comprising at least one non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions translatable by at least one processor to perform:

processing a notification,

wherein the notification comprises a generated event,

wherein the generated event comprises values associated with a set of criteria,

wherein the processing of the notification comprises locating cached content associated with the notification,

wherein the locating comprises comparing the values associated with the set of criteria with metadata stored in a cache in association with the cached content;

after the cached content which corresponds to the notification is found, performing an action with respect to the cached content,

wherein the action comprises flushing the cached content from the cache or regenerating a request utilizing the metadata stored in the cache in association with the cached content,

wherein new content is generated as a result of the action; and

storing the new content in the cache to replace the cached content.

10. The computer program product of claim 9, wherein the flushing causes the new content to be generated in response to a new request for content.

11. The computer program product of claim 9, wherein the regenerating comprises invoking a component to generate the new content.

12. The computer program product of claim 11, wherein the component comprises a rule configured to select content from a data store based on the values associated with the set of criteria.

13. A system for cache management, comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions translatable by the at least one processor to perform;

processing a notification,

wherein the notification comprises a generated event,

wherein the generated event comprises values associated with a set of criteria,

wherein the processing of the notification comprises locating cached content associated with the notification,

wherein the locating comprises comparing the values associated with the set of criteria with metadata stored in a cache in association with the cached content;

after the cached content which corresponds to the notification is found, performing an action with respect to the cached content,

wherein the action comprises flushing the cached content from the cache or regenerating a request utilizing the metadata stored in the cache in association with the cached content,

wherein new content is generated as a result of the action; and

storing the new content in the cache to replace the cached content.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the flushing causes the new content to be generated in response to a new request for content.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the new content is responsive to the new request.

16. The system of claim 13, wherein the regenerating comprises invoking a component to generate the new content.

17. The system of claim 15, wherein the component comprises a rule configured to select content from a data store based on the values associated with the set of criteria.

18. The system of claim 15, wherein the notification is issued by an application manager.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the component is selected by the application manager.

20. The system of claim 13, wherein the notification is received or obtained via Java Messaging Service (JMS), Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP), Service Oriented Architecture Protocol (SOAP) or eXtensible Markup Language (XML).
