Abstract

A method and apparatus for multi-touch wallpaper management for a mobile computing device are described wherein a first wallpaper image is displayed on a multi-touch-sensitive display of the mobile computing device and a multi-touch gesture is received indicating a request to change the first wallpaper image. In response to the multi-touch gesture, at least a portion of a second wallpaper image is displayed. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

displaying a first wallpaper image on a multi-touch-sensitive display of a mobile computing device;

receiving a multi-touch gesture indicating a request to change the first wallpaper image; and

displaying at least a portion of a second wallpaper image in response to the multi-touch gesture.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the multi-touch gesture indicating a request to change the first wallpaper image comprises a left-to-right, right-to-left, top-to-bottom, bottom-to-top or corner-to-corner diagonal scrolling gesture beginning at one of four edges of the first wallpaper image and ending at an opposite edge of the first wallpaper image or beginning at one of four corners of the first wallpaper image and ending at an opposite corner of the first wallpaper image.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the scrolling gesture results in a proportional portion of the second wallpaper image being displayed along with a proportional portion of the first wallpaper image based on a position of the scrolling gesture on the multi-touch-sensitive display.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the multi-touch gesture indicating a request to change the first wallpaper image comprises a pinch-in gesture or a pinch-out gesture to resize the first wallpaper image.

5. The method of claim 1, comprising:

displaying one or more application windows on top of the first or second wallpaper images, wherein at least a portion of the first or second wallpaper image is displayed behind the one or more application windows in response to the multi-touch gesture and wherein the multi-touch gesture overlaps the one or more application windows.

6. The method of claim 5, comprising:

sounding an auditory queue indicating that one or more application windows are associated with a second wallpaper image.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the first or second wallpaper image comprises an application wallpaper that is dynamically updated in response to changes in a corresponding application.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the first or second wallpaper image is automatically selected based on a selected application.

9. The method of claim 1, comprising:

displaying consecutive wallpaper images in response to consecutive multi-touch gestures.

10. The method of claim 8, comprising:

retrieving the consecutive wallpaper images from an image or application database.

11. An article of manufacture comprising a computer-readable storage medium containing instructions that when executed by a processor enable a system to:

display a first wallpaper image on a multi-touch-sensitive display of a mobile computing device;

receive a multi-touch gesture indicating a request to change the first wallpaper image; and

display at least a portion of a second wallpaper image in response to the multi-touch gesture.

12. The article of manufacture of claim 11, wherein the multi-touch gesture indicating a request to change the first wallpaper image comprises a left-to-right, right-to-left, top-to-bottom, bottom-to-top or corner-to-corner diagonal scrolling gesture beginning at one of four edges of the first wallpaper image and ending at an opposite edge of the first wallpaper image or beginning at one of four corners of the first wallpaper image and ending at an opposite corner of the first wallpaper image.

The article of manufacture of claim 12, wherein the scrolling gesture results in a proportional portion of the second wallpaper image being displayed along with a proportional portion of the first wallpaper image based on a position of the scrolling gesture on the multi-touch-sensitive display.

14. The article of manufacture of claim 11, wherein the multi-touch gesture indicating a request to change the first wallpaper image comprises a pinch-in gesture or a pinch-out gesture to resize the first wallpaper image.

15. The article of manufacture of claim 11, comprising instructions that when executed by the processor enable the system to:

display one or more application windows on top of the first or second wallpaper images, wherein at least a portion of the first or second wallpaper image is displayed behind the one or more application windows in response to the multi-touch gesture and wherein the multi-touch gesture overlaps the one or more application windows.

16. The article of manufacture of claim 15, comprising instructions that when executed by the processor enable the system to:

sound an auditory queue indicating that one or more application windows are associated with a second wallpaper image.

17. The article of manufacture of claim 11, wherein the first or second wallpaper image comprises an application wallpaper that is dynamically updated in response to changes in a corresponding application.

18. The article of manufacture of claim 11, wherein the first or second wallpaper image is automatically selected based on a selected application.

19. The article of manufacture of claim 11, comprising instructions that when executed by the processor enable the system to:

display consecutive wallpaper images in response to consecutive multi-touch gestures.

20. The article of manufacture of claim 11, comprising instructions that when executed by the processor enable the system to:

retrieve the consecutive wallpaper images from an image or application database.

21. A mobile computing device, comprising:

a multi-touch-sensitive display;

a wallpaper management module operative to display a first wallpaper image on the multi-touch-sensitive display;

a multi-touch management module operative to receive multi-touch gestures from the multi-touch-sensitive display, wherein at least one multi-touch gesture indicates a request to change the first wallpaper image; and

wherein the wallpaper management module is operative to display at least a portion of a second wallpaper image in response to the multi-touch gesture indicating the request to change the first wallpaper image.

22. The mobile computing device of claim 21, wherein the multi-touch gesture indicating a request to change the first wallpaper image comprises a left-to-right, right-to-left, top-to-bottom, bottom-to-top or corner-to-corner diagonal scrolling gesture beginning at one of four edges of the first wallpaper image and ending at an opposite edge of the first wallpaper image or beginning at one of four corners of the first wallpaper image and ending at an opposite corner of the first wallpaper image.

The mobile computing device of claim 22, wherein the scrolling gesture results in the wallpaper management module displaying a proportional portion of the second wallpaper image along with a proportional portion of the first wallpaper image based on a position of the scrolling gesture on the multi-touch-sensitive display.

24. The mobile computing device of claim 21, wherein the multi-touch gesture indicating a request to change the first wallpaper image comprises a pinch-in gesture or a pinch-out gesture to resize the first wallpaper image.

25. The mobile computing device of claim 21, comprising:

an application management module operative to display one or more application windows on top of the first or second wallpaper images, wherein at least a portion of the first or second wallpaper image is displayed behind the one or more application windows in response to the multi-touch gesture and wherein the multi-touch gesture overlaps the one or more application windows.
