Abstract

Systems and methods employable, for example, in the handling of various electronically-dispatched messages, fiber-optic or light based messages, wireless based messages, and/or the like. According to various such systems and methods, in the case where a dispatched message is, for instance, found to be inadequate, undesirable, and/or not wanted or the like in some way, an entity receiving the message and/or one or more entities associated with the recipient entity may, for example, come to possess all or some of funds required by network rules, database rules, file based rules, message based rules, in memory based rules, computer program based rules and/or the like to be made available for possession by the sender (either directly or indirectly) of the message in association with the message.

Claims

82. A method for message handling, comprising:

attaching, to an electronic message, a digital rights management container;

assigning, using a computer, rules governing security access required of a recipient in order to view the electronic message;

assigning, to the digital rights management container, rules governing security access required of a recipient in order to view the contents of the digital rights management container; and

sending the electronic message with the digital rights management container to one or more recipients.

The method of claim 82, wherein the rules governing security access are part of a security matrix and are established by reference to one or more sets of directives, according to which each user of a system by which the electronic message is sent is granted rules-based security access to designated types of electronic messages and information sent using the system.

84. The method of claim 83, further comprising requiring and enabling each user of the system to adopt a user security matrix, which governs the user'"'"'s access to electronic messages and information sent using the system.

85. The method of claim 84, further comprising requiring and enabling each user of the system to adopt a security matrix by selecting from one or more pre-established privacy templates, wherein each privacy template is a security matrix established based on a set of directives including access rules based on at least one of the following:

role;

authority;

credentials;

adherence to privacy rules and restrictions; and

authentication methodology.

86. The method of claim 85, further comprising requiring and enabling each user of the system to adopt a standard privacy template in order to utilize the system to transmit or access electronic messages.

87. The method of claim 82, wherein the electronic message includes medical information.

88. The method of claim 87, wherein the medical information includes at least one of the following:

medical records information;

data related to medical records medical bill payments;

medical insurance information; and

medical insurance claims related data.

89. The method of claim 88, wherein the medical information is stored in the digital rights management container.

90. The method of claim 89, wherein access to the medical information stored in the digital rights management container is restricted using a security matrix, according to which each user is granted rules-based security access, including rules based on at least one of the following:

role;

authority;

credentials;

adherence to privacy rules and restrictions; and

authentication methodology.

91. The method of claim 82, wherein the electronic message is sent by the message originator in response to a query of a server, accessible store, or an encrypted database by the message recipient.

92. A system for message handling, comprising:

a memory having program code stored therein; and

a processor operatively connected to said memory for carrying out instructions in accordance with said stored program code;

wherein said program code includes instructions, executable by said processor, for;

attaching, to an electronic message, a digital rights management container;

assigning, to the electronic message, rules governing security access required of a recipient in order to view the electronic message;

assigning, to the digital rights management container, rules governing security access required of a recipient in order to view the contents of the digital rights management container, including one or more of the following access rules;

role;

authority;

credentials;

adherence to privacy rules and restrictions; and

authentication methodology; and

sending the electronic message with the digital rights management container to one or more recipients.

The system of claim 92, wherein the rules-based security access is part of a security matrix established by reference to one or more sets of directives, according to which each user of a system by which the electronic message is sent is granted rules-based security access to various types of electronic messages and information sent using the system.

94. The system of claim 92, wherein the system is configured to require and enable each user of the system to adopt a security matrix, which governs the user'"'"'s access to electronic messages and information sent using the system.

95. The system of claim 94, wherein the system is configured to require and enable users to adopt a security matrix by selecting from one or more pre-established privacy templates, wherein each privacy template is a security matrix established based on a set of directives.

96. The system of claim 95, wherein the system is configured to require and enable all users to adopt a standard privacy template in order to utilize the system to transmit or access electronic messages.

The system of claim 92, wherein the system includes a local device utilized by a message originator or recipient, wherein the program code further includes program code stored on the local device, wherein the program code stored on the local device includes instructions for performing an assessment of the adequacy of the recipient'"'"'s level of security access.

The system of claim 92, wherein the system includes a network, which includes a local device for utilization by a message originator or recipient, wherein the program code further includes program code stored on the network, the program code stored on the network including instructions for performing an assessment of the adequacy of the recipient'"'"'s rules-based security access, wherein the program code including instructions for performing the assessment is stored on the network in a location remote from the local device.

99. The system of claim 92, wherein the program code further includes instructions for performing tasks in filtering electronic messages and providing security services to ensure that the electronic messages received by any recipient are not malicious.

100. The system of claim 99, wherein filtering electronic messages and providing security services include virus-checking, spam-blocking, protection against denial of service attacks, or validation that an electronic message is authentic.

101. The system of claim 92, wherein the electronic message includes medical information.

102. The system of claim 101, wherein the medical information includes at least one of the following:

medical records information;

data related to medical records

payments or claims related data; and

medical insurance information.

103. The system of claim 102, wherein the medical information is stored in the digital rights management container.

104. The system of claim 103, wherein access to the medical information stored in the digital rights management container is restricted using a security matrix, according to which each user is granted rules-based security access, based on one or more of the following access rules:

role;

authority;

credentials;

adherence to privacy rules and restrictions; and

authentication methodology.

The system of claim 92, wherein users of the system are required to register, and wherein the system is configured to send a bounce message, when an unregistered user attempts to send an electronic message to a registered user, to the unregistered user informing them of the registered status of the recipient.

106. The system of claim 92, wherein the system is configured to send a bounce message to a message originator, if the recipient is unable to access the electronic message, based on rules based security access, established directives, or role-based access controls, informing them of the security policies, rules, role, or authority required to access the contents of the electronic message.
