Abstract

The present document describes a system and method for changing volume of traffic to a website. The system comprises: a user database and a promotional server in communication with each other. The user database comprises user accounts. Each account is associated with a user identification and is also for keeping track of benefits. The promotional server is configured to perform the steps of: detecting an access request to the website by a user from a Web browser; consulting a user database to identify the user from the access request; identifying a method of calling the website from a value of a field or a value of a variable in the access request; from at least one of the identity of the user and the method of calling the website, establishing, by consulting a promotions database, a determined amount; increasing a value of the points field associated to the user in the user database by the determined amount; sending instructions to the Web browser to display one of: information indicative of at least one of an increase in, and the possibility to increase, the points field associated to the user in the user database, the points field being representative of a benefit to the user; and information indicative of the possibility for the user to register in the user database.

Claims

1. A method for changing volume of traffic to a website, the method comprising:

detecting an access request to the website by a user from a Web browser;

consulting a user database to identify the user from the access request;

identifying a method of calling the website from a value of a field or a value of a variable in the access request;

consulting a promotions database to establish a determined amount corresponding to entries for at least one of the identity of the user and the method of calling the website; and

increasing a value of a points field associated to the user in the user database by the determined amount.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising sending instructions to the Web browser to display one of:

information indicative of at least one of an increase in, and the possibility to increase, the points field associated to the user in the user database, the points field being representative of a benefit to the user; and

information indicative of the possibility for the user to register in the user database.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising opening two exchanges between the Web browser and the website, a first of the two exchanges is made via a public field of the Web browser and a second of the two exchanges is made via a private field of the Web browser.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising sending data to fill the public field of the Web browser using public instructions of the website.

5. The method of claim 4, further comprising sending data to fill the private field of the Web browser using private instructions of the website.

6. The method of claim 4, further comprising the public instructions sending an order to connecting instructions to process the access request.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising the connecting instructions attributing an identification to the access request and performing the identifying the method of calling.

8. The method of claim 7, further comprising the connecting instructions encrypting the calling method and identification of the access request and sending the encrypted calling method and identification of the access request to an invisible connection field of the Web browser.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising the invisible connection field launching a call to private instructions of a centralized web site which in turn sends data to fill the private field of the Web browser.

10. The method of claim 7, further comprising the connecting instructions sending the calling method and identification of the access request to private instructions of a back office centralized website.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising the private instructions sending data to fill the private field of the Web browser via the connecting instructions.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the method of calling comprises one of:

typing the URL address of the website in an address bar of the Web browser;

by clicking on the corresponding link from a search engine; and

by clicking on the corresponding link from a phonebook site of sites proposing a bonus.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the method of calling comprises typing the URL address of the website in an address bar of the Web browser and a utilization of the address bar is indicated by one of:

a) the absence of the “

HTTP REFERER”

variable in the user request; and

b) the presence of a formatted field in the user request resulting from the use a plug-in tool bar as the address bar in the Web browser.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the access request comprises a user identification which comprises at least one of the IP address used by the user;

a cookie identifier;

an email address;

a user name; and

a user entered identification.

15. A method for inciting a user to request a Web page directly from an address bar in a Web browser on a user interface, the method being managed by a promotional server in communication with a user database, the user database comprising user accounts, each account being associated with a user identification and also being for keeping track of benefits for each user, the method comprising:

the user requesting a Web page directly from the address bar in the Web browser, the user request being indicative of the user identification and also being indicative of the utilization of the address bar;

receiving the user request at the promotional server;

confirming the presence of the indication of the utilization of the address bar in the user request;

upon confirmation of the presence of the indication of the utilization of the address bar in the user request, querying the user database with the user identification to confirm registration of the user;

upon confirmation of the registration of the user, adding a benefit to the user account associated to the user on the user database.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the indication of the utilization of the address bar comprises one of:

a) the absence of the “

HTTP REFERER”

variable in the user request; and

b) the presence of a formatted field in the user request resulting from the use a plug-in tool bar as the address bar in the Web browser.

17. The method of claim 15, further comprising, upon absence of the indication of the utilization of the address bar in the user request, the promotional server sending a user-specific message displayed on the Web page to advise the user of the possibility of registering on the database.

18. The method of claim 17, further comprising the step of the user registering the user identification in the user database.

19. The method of claim 15, wherein the user identification comprises at least one of the IP address used by the user;

a cookie identifier;

an email address;

a user name; and

a user entered identification.

20. A system for inciting a user to request a Web page directly from an address bar in a Web browser on a user interface, the system comprising:

a user database, the user database comprising user accounts. each account being associated with a user identification and also being for keeping track of benefits;

a promotional server in communication with the user database, the promotional server configured to perform the steps of;

receiving a user request for a Web page directly from the address bar in the Web browser, the user request being indicative of the user identification and also being indicative of the utilization of the address bar;

confirming the presence of the indication of the utilization of the address bar in the user request;

upon confirmation of the presence of the indication of the utilization of the address bar in the user request, querying the user database with the user identification to confirm registration of the user;

upon confirmation of the registration of the user, adding a benefit to a user account on the user database.
