1. A method for a privacy organization to manage a privacy interest for a person, comprising:
- entering an agent relationship with the person, wherein the agent relationship is between the person and the privacy organization for the privacy organization to represent the person'"'"'s privacy interest against entities directly or indirectly involved in transactions or interactions with the person or with Internet activity performed by the person, wherein the entities include entities capable of collecting data about the person from the transactions or interactions or from the Internet activity, or are capable of using or selling the data about the person collected from the transactions or interactions or from the Internet activity;
receiving, using a website accessed by the person, person-provided information from the person for use in identifying the person, and storing the person-provided information in a database accessible by the privacy organization; and
using the person-provided information in the database, asserting data ownership over protected information for the person, wherein the protected information includes personal information or transactional information, and wherein asserting data ownership includes providing a notice to the entities that the consumer is asserting data ownership over the protected information.

Abstract
A method and system for asserting control over and protecting the privacy of individuals'"'"' personal and transactional information, to prevent unauthorized use thereof, and permit limited use thereof, with compensation, to the extent permitted the individual. Privacy notices are given in printed and electronic form to other parties involved in the individuals'"'"' transactions. The individuals'"'"' own data are collected and maintained in a privacy trust database. On a voluntary basis, abstracted, anonymous profile information can be made available to advertisers, in exchange for compensation to the individuals. One use is in a content broadcasting system, where receipt of profile based viewer-specific commercial messages provide financial compensation for the cost of user-selected content received by the individual.

receiving Internet communication from the person at a website, wherein receiving Internet communication includes; receiving Internet communication for creating an agent relationship between the information trust entity and the person to represent the person'"'"'s privacy interest against entities directly or indirectly involved in transactions or interactions with the person or with Internet activity performed by the person, wherein the entities include entities capable of collecting data about the person from the transactions or interactions or from the Internet activity, or are capable of using or selling the data about the person collected from the transactions or interactions or from the Internet activity; and receiving Internet communication for receiving person-provided personal information from the person; receiving a request from the person for the privacy organization to translate the person-provided information into one or more digital identifier codes, and translating the person-provided information into the one or more digital identifier codes in response to the request, wherein each digital identifier code provides some protected information that at least partially describes the person; storing the person-provided personal information and the one or more digital identifier codes in a database; and asserting data ownership over protected information for the person, wherein the protected information includes personal information or transactional information, and wherein asserting data ownership includes; sending a public notice that automatically blanket serves notices on all potential holders, acquirers and users of the protected information; and receiving from the entities consideration for the person in exchange for at least one of the one or more digital identifier codes to enable the entities to use at least some of the protected information. - View Dependent Claims (36, 37)
