Abstract

A system, method and non-transitory computer readable storage medium are disclosed for managing workload in a data center. The method includes receiving, at a workload manager, energy consumption information. The method further includes receiving workload information about a second data center that is remote from a first data center, and receiving, as controlled by the workload manager, at the first data center at least a portion of workload associated with the second data center based on at least one of the energy consumption information and the workload information.

Claims

1. A method of managing workload, the method comprising:

receiving, at a workload manager, energy consumption information associated with at least one of a first data center and a second data center that is remote from the first data center;

receiving workload information about the second data center; and

receiving, as controlled by the workload manager, at the first data center at least a portion of workload associated with the second data center based on at least one of the energy consumption information and the workload information.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the workload associated with the second data center is workload scheduled to consume reserved resources in the second data center.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein receiving at the first data center at least a portion of the workload further comprises:

reserving resources in the first data center for the workload associated with the second data center to yield reserved resources in the first data center; and

deploying the workload associated with the second data center on the reserved resources in the first data center.

The method of claim 1, further comprising analyzing workload associated with the first data center to yield an analysis of the first data center workload, wherein receiving at the first data center at least a portion of workload associated with the second data center is further based on the analysis of the first data center workload.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein, when the energy consumption information is associated with a component within a node of the first data center or the second data center.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the component comprises a processor, a processor core, a random access memory, a storage device, and a cooling device.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the energy consumption information is based on information further associated with node utilization in each data center of the first data center and the second data center

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the energy consumption information is based on information further associated with climate conditions of a location of at least one of the first data center and the second data center.

9. A system for managing workload, the system comprising:

a processor;

a first module configured to control the processor to receive, at a workload manager, energy consumption information associated with at least one of a first data center and a second data center that is remote from the first data center;

a second module configured to control the processor to receive workload information about the second data center; and

a third module configured to control the processor to receive, as controlled by the workload manager, at the first data center at least a portion of workload associated with the second data center based on at least one of the energy consumption information and the workload information.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the workload associated with the second data center is workload scheduled to consume reserved resources in the second data center.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the second module is further configured to control the processor to reserve resources in the first data center for the workload associated with the second data center to yield reserved resources in the first data center, and deploy the workload associated with the second data center on the reserved resources in the first data center.

12. The system of claim 9, further comprising:

a fourth module configured to control the processor to analyze workload associated with the first data center to yield an analysis of the first data center workload, wherein receiving at the first data center at least a portion of workload associated with the second data center is further based on the analysis of the first data center workload.

13. The system of claim 9, wherein the energy consumption information is associated with a component within a node of the first data center or the second data center.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the component comprises a processor, a processor core, a random access memory, a storage device, and a cooling device.

15. The system of claim 9, wherein the energy consumption information is based on information further associated with node utilization in each data center of the first data center and the second data center

16. The system of claim 9, wherein the energy consumption information is based on information further associated with climate conditions of a location of at least one of the first data center and the second data center.

17. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions which, when executed by a computing device, cause the computing device to manage workload, the instructions comprising:

receiving, at a workload manager, energy consumption information associated with at least one of a first data center and a second data center that is remote from the first data center;

receiving workload information about the second data center; and

receiving, as controlled by the workload manager, at the first data center at least a portion of workload associated with the second data center based on at least one of the energy consumption information and the workload information.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the workload associated with the second data center is workload scheduled to consume reserved resources in the second data center.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 18, wherein receiving at the first data center at least a portion of the workload further comprises:

reserving resources in the first data center for the workload associated with the second data center to yield reserved resources in the first data center; and

deploying the workload associated with the second data center on the reserved resources in the first data center.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the instructions further comprise:

analyzing workload associated with the first data center to yield an analysis of the first data center workload, wherein receiving at the first data center at least a portion of workload associated with the second data center is further based on the analysis of the first data center workload.
