- a first receiver configured to receive a plurality of signals of a first type;
a second receiver configured to receive a plurality of signals of a second type, wherein the first type of signals and the second type of signals are different wireless communication types comprising at least one of different wireless communication protocols and specifications;
a signal quality processor configured to assess a quality for location determination of at least one of the first type of signals and the second type of signals;
a selector configured to select one of the first type of signals, the second type of signals and a hybrid combination of the first type of signal and the second type of signal for location determination based on the assessed quality of the first type of signals and the second type of signals; and
a location calculator configured to determine a location of the device using the selected signals.

Abstract
A method and device for location determination includes receiving at least one signal from a first transmitter and receiving at least one signal from a second signal transmitter. The first transmitter transmits a first type of signal and the second transmitter transmits a second type of signal different from the first type of signal. Location determination further includes assessing a signal quality of the signals received from at least one of the first signal transmitter and second signal transmitter and determining a location of a device using the received first and second type of signals at least from both the first signal transmitter and from the second signal transmitter.

a location determination mechanism configured to determine a change in location based on one of GPS signals, cellular signals and television signals or a hybrid combination of any two or more of GPS signals, cellular signals and television signals, wherein the location determination mechanism is configured to use the hybrid combination when at least one of GPS signals, cellular signals, and television signals alone are not sufficient; and an access point selector configured to initiate an access point scan when the location determination mechanism determines a change in location. - View Dependent Claims (18)

19. A process for operating a wireless device comprising:

determining a change in location based on one of GPS signals, cellular signals and television signals or a hybrid combination of any two or more of GPS signals, cellular signals and television signals, wherein the location change determination uses the hybrid combination when at least one of GPS signals, cellular signals and television signals alone are not sufficient; and initiating an access point scan when the location determination mechanism determines a change in location. - View Dependent Claims (20)
