Abstract

A subscriber unit, used for communicating in voiced communications at a first data rate and communicating at a second data rate for other data, suppresses a selected communication during communication rate modification. A determination is made as to whether the transmission requires a change in data rate, and a switching circuit responds by engaging a different communication channel. Blocking circuitry blocks transmissions until the different data rate is established. This provides an optimum data rate, while preserving the integrity of the data transmitted.

Claims

1. A method for use with in wireless communications comprising:

establishing data transmission between first and second nodes;

blocking data transmissions from the second node to the first node in response to a message;

preserving the integrity of data transmitted during the blocking; and

reestablishing data transmission between the first and second nodes.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein reestablishing the data transmission comprises transmitting data preserved during the backlog.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the transmitting includes transmitting an antenna indicator.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein an antenna is selected to reduce interference.

5. A wireless communication network having a first node and a second node, comprising:

circuitry establishing data transmission between the first node and the second node;

circuitry that blocks the data transmission; and

circuitry that preserves the integrity of the blocked transmission for later transmission.

6. The wireless communication network of claim 5 wherein circuitry detects transmissions having selective frequencies indicating a request for an increased data transmission rate.

7. The wireless communication network of claim 5 wherein adjustment circuitry switches the data transmission to a higher data transmission rate.
