Abstract

A method and apparatus for providing Point Of Interest (POI) information in a portable terminal are provided. The method includes displaying an image mapped with at least one POI on a screen, sensing if the screen is touched in a closed curve shape, and displaying information on the POI mapped to an area within a closed curve of the displayed image.

Claims

1. A method for providing Point Of Interest (POI) information in a portable terminal, the method comprising:

displaying on a screen an image mapped with at least one POI;

sensing if the screen is touched in a closed curve shape; and

displaying information on a POI mapped to an area within a closed curve of the displayed image.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

when the screen is touched in the closed curve shape,

displaying the closed curve shape on the screen,

determining if the POI mapped to the area exists within the closed curve of the displayed image, and

eliminating the closed curve shape displayed on the screen if the POI does not exist within the closed curve of the displayed image.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising displaying a POI icon indicating that at least one POI is mapped in the image,

wherein the POI icon is displayed in a position of an area of the image mapped to a corresponding POI.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

when a Short Message Service (SMS) send menu is selected,

converting the displayed POI information into a text,

displaying an SMS creation screen comprising the POI information converted into the text, and

transmitting an SMS completed by a user to a Mobile Station (MS).

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

when a Multimedia Message Service (MMS) send menu is selected,

converting the displayed POI information into a text,

acquiring a thumbnail image of the image,

displaying an MMS creation screen comprising the POI information converted into the text and the thumbnail image, and

transmitting an MMS completed by a user to an MS.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

when an image capture event takes place in a state in which the information on the POI mapped to the area within the closed curve is displayed,

capturing a screen to acquire an image, when an MMS send menu is selected, converting the displayed POI information into a text,

displaying an MMS creation screen comprising the POI information converted into the text and the captured image, and

transmitting an MMS completed by a user to an MS.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

when no POI mapped to the area exists within the closed curve,

determining if at least one menu icon exists in the area within the closed curve, and

when the menu icon exists in the area within the closed curve, selecting the at least one menu icon.

8. A method for providing Point Of Interest (POI) information in a portable terminal, the method comprising:

receiving a message comprising POI information from a Mobile Station (MS); and

providing a link function menu using the POI information,

wherein the link function menu comprises at least one of ‘

Web Link’

, and ‘

Navigation’

.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the portable terminal does not support Mixed Reality (MR) technology.

10. The method of claim 8, further comprising executing at least one of the ‘

Navigation’

based on a user input.

11. An apparatus for providing Point Of Interest (POI) information in a portable terminal, the apparatus comprising:

a display unit configured to display on a screen an image mapped with at least one POI; and

a controller configured to sense if the screen is touched in a closed curve shape, and control the display unit to display information on a POI mapped to an area within a closed curve of the displayed image.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein, when the screen is touched in the closed curve shape,

the display unit displays the closed curve shape on the screen, and

the controller determines if the POI mapped to the area exists within the closed curve of the displayed image and, controls the display unit to eliminate the closed curve shape displayed on the screen if the POI does not exist within the closed curve of the displayed image.

13. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the display unit displays a POI icon indicating that at least one POI is mapped in the image under control of the controller, and

wherein the POI icon is displayed in a position of an area of the image mapped to a corresponding POI.

The apparatus of claim 11, wherein, when a Short Message Service (SMS) send menu is selected, the controller converts the displayed POI information into a text, controls the display unit to display an SMS creation screen comprising the POI information converted into the text, and transmits an SMS completed by a user to a Mobile Station (MS).

The apparatus of claim 11, wherein, when a Multimedia Message Service (MMS) send menu is selected, the controller converts the displayed POI information into a text, acquires a thumbnail image of the image, controls the display unit to display an MMS creation screen comprising the POI information converted into the text and the thumbnail image, and transmits an MMS completed by a user to an MS.

The apparatus of claim 11, wherein, when an image capture event takes place in a state in which the information on the POI mapped to the area within the closed curve is displayed, the controller captures a screen to acquire an image, converts the displayed POI information into a text when an MMS send menu is selected, controls the display unit to display an MMS creation screen comprising the POI information converted into the text and the captured image, and transmits an MMS completed by a user to an MS.

The apparatus of claim 11, wherein, when no POI mapped to the area exists within the closed curve, the controller determines if at least one menu icon exists in the area within the closed curve, and selects the at least one menu icon when the menu icon exists in the area within the closed curve.

18. An apparatus for providing Point Of Interest (POI) information in a portable terminal, the apparatus comprising a controller for, when a message comprising POI information is received from other Mobile Station (MS), providing a link function menu using the POI information,

19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the portable terminal does not support Mixed Reality (MR) technology.
