Abstract

A method for inducing satiety using the steps of inserting an elongated device into a patient through a natural orifice and into a stomach of the patient, placing a distal end of the elongated device adjacent a treatment site within the stomach, and delivering at least one space occupying member through the elongated device adjacent the treatment site and implanting the at least one space occupying member between the submucosal and muscularis layers at the target site.

Claims

1. A method for inducing satiety, said method comprising:

a. inserting an elongated device into a patient through a natural orifice and into a stomach of the patient;

b. placing a distal end of said elongated device adjacent a treatment site within the stomach;

c. delivering at least one space occupying member through said elongated device adjacent said treatment site and implanting said at least one space occupying member between the submucosal and muscularis layers at said target site.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein said step of implanting said at least one space occupying member between the submucosal and muscularis layers at said target site comprises implanting said device adjacent the pyloric sphincter.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein said step of implanting said at least one space occupying member between the submucosal and muscularis layers at said target site comprises implanting said device adjacent the pyloric sphincter.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein said step of implanting said at least one space occupying member between the submucosal and muscularis layers at said target site comprises implanting said device adjacent the pyloric sphincter.

3. A method for inducing satiety, said method comprising:

a. inserting an elongated device into a patient through a natural orifice and into a stomach of the patient;

b. placing a distal end of said elongated device adjacent a treatment site within the stomach;

c. delivering at least one space occupying member through said elongated device adjacent said treatment site and implanting said at least one space occupying member between the submucosal and muscularis layers at said target site by allowing said space occupying device to expand in volume.

5. A method for inducing satiety, said method comprising:

a. inserting an elongated device into a patient through a natural orifice and into a stomach of the patient;

b. placing a distal end of said elongated device adjacent a treatment site within the stomach;

c. forming a bleb within said stomach at said treatment site injecting a fluid between the submucosal and muscularis layers at said target site; and

d. delivering at least one space occupying member through said elongated device adjacent said treatment site and implanting said at least one space occupying member within said bleb.
