Abstract

A computer-implemented method for managing stakeholder impact on sustainability for an organization is disclosed. The method may include storing a plurality of instances of a stakeholder object. Each instance may define a plurality of characteristics of a stakeholder of the organization. In certain embodiments, the characteristics may be selected from the group consisting of: a description of the stakeholder, a category of the stakeholder, a description of a relationship with the stakeholder, an owner of the relationship with the stakeholder, a description of a stakeholder investment in the organization, a first indication of an extent to which a stakeholder interest actually aligns with an organizational interest, a second indication of an extent to which the stakeholder interest is optimally aligned with the organizational interest, a description of an approval power granted to the stakeholder, an importance rating of the stakeholder relationship from a perspective of the organization; and an anticipated effect of a sustainability project of the organization on the stakeholder relationship. The method may further include establishing a computer-based logical link between at least one instance of the stakeholder object to at least one sustainability project of the organization. The method may also include generating a progress report of the sustainability project and determining that a particular stakeholder of the organization is logically linked to the sustainability project. In certain embodiments, the method may include, automatically transferring the progress report to the stakeholder of the organization, wherein the progress report is transferred in a desired format.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method for managing stakeholder impact on sustainability for an organization, the method comprising:

storing in one or more memory modules of a computer system a plurality of instances of a stakeholder object, each of the plurality of instances of the stakeholder object defining a plurality of characteristics of a stakeholder of the organization, at least five of the plurality of characteristics selected from the group consisting of;

a description of the stakeholder;

a category of the stakeholder;

a description of a relationship with the stakeholder;

an owner of the relationship with the stakeholder;

a description of a stakeholder investment in the organization;

a first indication of an extent to which a stakeholder interest actually aligns with an organizational interest;

a second indication of an extent to which the stakeholder interest is optimally aligned with the organizational interest;

a description of an approval power granted to the stakeholder;

an importance rating of the stakeholder relationship from a perspective of the organization; and

an anticipated effect of a sustainability project of the organization on the stakeholder relationship;

establishing a computer-based logical link between at least one of the plurality of instances of the stakeholder object to at least one sustainability project of the organization, the at least one sustainability project of the organization stored in the one or more memory modules of the computer system;

generating a progress report of the sustainability project of the organization using a computer unit;

determining that a particular stakeholder of the organization is logically linked to the at least one sustainability project of the organization; and

in response to the determination that the stakeholder is logically linked to the sustainability project of the organization, automatically transferring the progress report to the stakeholder of the organization, wherein the progress report is transferred in a desired format.

The method of claim 1, further comprising establishing a computer-based logical link between at least one of the plurality of instances of the stakeholder object and an activity of the organization, the activity of the organization indirectly affecting sustainability, the second representation stored in the one or more memory modules of the computer system.

The method of claim 1, wherein one of the plurality of instances of the stakeholder object defines one of the plurality of characteristics in terms of one of at least two different ratings, the one of the plurality of characteristics being the anticipated affect of the sustainability project of the organization on the stakeholder relationship.

The method of claim 1, wherein one of the plurality of instances of the stakeholder object defines one of the plurality of characteristics in terms of one of at least three different ratings, the one of the plurality of characteristics being the importance rating of the stakeholder relationship from a perspective of the organization.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising automatically generating an alert in response to a determination that the first indication differs from the second indication by a predetermined amount.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising withholding from the stakeholder of the organization the plurality of characteristics of the stakeholder.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the organizational interest comprises the sustainability project of the organization.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein at least eight of the plurality of characteristics are selected from the group consisting of:

a description of the stakeholder;

a category of the stakeholder;

a description of a relationship with the stakeholder;

an owner of the relationship with the stakeholder;

a description of a stakeholder investment in the organization;

a first indication of an extent to which a stakeholder interest actually aligns with an organizational interest;

a second indication of an extent to which the stakeholder interest is optimally aligned with the organizational interest;

a description of an approval power granted to the stakeholder;

an importance rating of the stakeholder relationship from a perspective of the organization; and

an anticipated effect of a sustainability project of the organization on the stakeholder relationship.

9. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising software operable, when executed by at least one processor, to:

store in one or more memory modules of a computer system a plurality of instances of a stakeholder object, each of the plurality of instances of the stakeholder object defining a plurality of characteristics of a stakeholder of the organization, at least five of the plurality of characteristics selected from the group consisting of;

a description of the stakeholder;

a category of the stakeholder;

a description of a relationship with the stakeholder;

an owner of the relationship with the stakeholder;

a description of a stakeholder investment in the organization;

a first indication of an extent to which a stakeholder interest actually aligns with an organizational interest;

a second indication of an extent to which the stakeholder interest is optimally aligned with the organizational interest;

a description of an approval power granted to the stakeholder;

an importance rating of the stakeholder relationship from a perspective of the organization;

an anticipated effect of a sustainability project of the organization on the stakeholder relationship;

establish a computer-based logical link between at least one of the plurality of instances of the stakeholder object to at least one sustainability project of the organization, the at least one sustainability project of the organization stored in the one or more memory modules of the computer system;

generate a progress report of the sustainability project of the organization using a computer unit;

determine that a particular stakeholder of the organization is logically linked to the at least one sustainability project of the organization; and

in response to the determination that the stakeholder is logically linked to the sustainability project of the organization, automatically transfer the progress report to the stakeholder of the organization, wherein the progress report is transferred in a desired format.

The computer-readable medium of claim 9, wherein the software is further operable, when executed by the at least on processor, to establish a computer-based logical link between at least one of the plurality of instances of the stakeholder object and an activity of the organization, the activity of the organization indirectly affecting sustainability, the second representation stored in the one or more memory modules of the computer system.

The computer-readable medium of claim 9, wherein one of the plurality of instances of the stakeholder object defines one of the plurality of characteristics in terms of one of at least two different ratings, the one of the plurality of characteristics being the anticipated effect of the sustainability project of the organization on the stakeholder relationship.

The computer-readable medium of claim 9, wherein one of the plurality of instances of the stakeholder object defines one of the plurality of characteristics in terms of one of at least three different ratings, the one of the plurality of characteristics being the importance rating of the stakeholder relationship from a perspective of the organization.

13. The computer-readable medium of claim 9, wherein the software is further operable, when executed by the at least one processor, to automatically generate an alert in response to a determination that the first indication differs from the second indication by a predetermined amount.

14. The computer-readable medium of claim 9, wherein the organizational interest comprises the sustainability project of the organization.

15. The computer-readable medium of claim 9, wherein at least eight of the plurality of characteristics are selected from the group consisting of:

a description of the stakeholder;

a category of the stakeholder;

a description of a relationship with the stakeholder;

an owner of the relationship with the stakeholder;

a description of a stakeholder investment in the organization;

a first indication of an extent to which a stakeholder interest actually aligns with an organizational interest;

a second indication of an extent to which the stakeholder interest is optimally aligned with the organizational interest;

a description of an approval power granted to the stakeholder;

an importance rating of the stakeholder relationship from a perspective of the organization; and

an anticipated effect of a sustainability project of the organization on the stakeholder relationship.

16. A data processing system for managing stakeholder impact on sustainability for an organization, the data processing system comprising:

at least one processor;

one or more memory modules collectively storing;

a plurality of instances of a stakeholder object, each instance defining a plurality of characteristics of a stakeholder of the organization, at least five of the plurality of characteristics selected from the group consisting of;

a description of the stakeholder;

a category of the stakeholder;

a description of a relationship with the stakeholder;

an owner of the relationship with the stakeholder;

a description of a stakeholder investment in the organization;

a first indication of an extent to which a stakeholder interest actually aligns with an organizational interest;

a second indication of an extent to which the stakeholder interest is optimally aligned with the organizational interest;

a description of an approval power granted to the stakeholder;

an importance rating of the stakeholder relationship from a perspective of the organization;

an anticipated effect of a sustainability project of the organization on the stakeholder relationship;

logic operable, when executed by the at least one, to;

establish a computer-based logical link between at least one of the plurality of instances of the stakeholder object to at least one sustainability project of the organization, the at least one sustainability project of the organization stored in the one or more memory modules of the computer system;

generate a progress report of the sustainability project of the organization using a computer unit;

determine that a particular stakeholder of the organization is logically linked to the at least one sustainability project of the organization; and

in response to the determination that the stakeholder is logically linked to the sustainability project of the organization, automatically transfer the progress report to the stakeholder of the organization, wherein the progress report is transferred in a desired format.

The data processing system of claim 16, wherein the logic is further operable, when executed by the at least one processor, to establish a computer-based logical link between at least one of the plurality of instances of the stakeholder object and an activity of the organization, the activity of the organization indirectly affecting sustainability, the second representation stored in the one or more memory modules of the computer system.

The data processing system of claim 16, wherein one of the plurality of instances of the stakeholder object defines one of the plurality of characteristics in terms of one of at least two different ratings, the one of the plurality of characteristics being the anticipated effect of the sustainability project of the organization on the stakeholder relationship.

The data processing system of claim 16, wherein one of the plurality of instances of the stakeholder object defines one of the plurality of characteristics in terms of one of at least three different ratings, the one of the plurality of characteristics being the importance rating of the stakeholder relationship from a perspective of the organization.

20. The data processing system of claim 16, wherein the logic is further operable, when executed by the at least one processor, to automatically generate an alert in response to a determination that the first indication differs from the second indication by a predetermined amount.
