Abstract

A first embodiment can be a method to reduce SLOSH energy absorption within an organism by reducing the inelastic collisions. A fluid containing organism can utilize an embodiment of the method wherein one or more of reversibly increasing pressure within the organs or cells, reversibly increasing the volume within the organs or cells, reversibly altering vascular, molecular, or cell wall stiffness, or reversibly altering vascular, molecular, or cell wall configuration within said organism may reduce these collisions.

Claims

1. A method to reduce SLOSH energy absorption comprising the reduction of inelastic collisions in a fluid containing organism wherein the method is one or more of reversibly increasing pressure within the organs or cells, or reversibly increasing the volume within the organs or cells, reversibly altering vascular, molecular, or cell wall stiffness, or reversibly altering vascular, molecular, or cell wall configuration within said organism.

2. The method to reduce SLOSH energy absorption of claim 1 wherein pressure within the cranium is reversibly increased by raising the pCO₂ up to about 70 mmHg in the body of the organism.

3. The method to reduce SLOSH energy absorption of claim 2 wherein the pressure within the cranium is reversibly increased by increasing the fractional percentage of CO₂ inspired by the organism from 0.01 to as high as about 100%.

4. The method to reduce SLOSH energy absorption of claim 3 wherein pCO₂ in the body of said organism is raised by way of any externally imparted respiratory circuit which modulates the fractional percentage of CO₂ inspired by the organism.

5. The method to reduce SLOSH energy absorption of claim 1 wherein pressure is reversibly increased in the cranium by raising the pCO₂ up to about 70 mm Hg in the body of the organism.

6. The method to reduce SLOSH energy absorption of claim 5 wherein the pressure is reversibly increased by the delivery of one or more medicaments that are known to alter pH of the organism.

7. The method to reduce SLOSH energy absorption of claim 6 wherein the medicaments are carbonic anhydrase inhibitors.

8. The method to reduce SLOSH energy absorption of claim 1 wherein the intracranial volume and pressure is reversibly increased by reducing the flow of one or more outflow vessels of the cranium of said organism.

9. The method to reduce SLOSH energy absorption of claim 8 wherein the flow is reduced by a device that can restrict the outflow vessels.

10. The method to reduce SLOSH energy absorption of claim 1 wherein the intracranial volume is reversibly increased by the delivery of one or more medicaments to facilitate an increase in intracranial volume or pressure.

11. The method to reduce SLOSH energy absorption of claim 1 wherein the medicaments are one or more of Minocycline, insulin-like growth factor 1, Provera, and Vitamin A.

12. The method to reduce SLOSH energy absorption of claim 1 wherein configuration of the cell wall is reversibly altered to increase membrane stability and decrease membrane fluidity.

13. The method to reduce SLOSH energy absorption of claim 12 wherein one or more of DHA and Magnesium oxide are used to alter erythrocyte cell wall configuration.

14. The method to reduce SLOSH energy absorption of claim 12 wherein the molecular configuration of hemoglobin is reversibly altered by altering one or more of pH, pCO₂ or blood levels of 2,3-Bisphosphoglycerate within said organism to decrease hemoglobin elasticity and fluidity.
