Abstract

A system and method in a television system for providing for user-selection of objects in a television program, substantially as shown in and/or described in connection with at least one of the figures, as set forth more completely in the claims.

Claims

1. A method, in a television system, for providing for user selection of an object in television programming, the method comprising:

in a television system, at least;

determining that a user desires to select a user-selectable object in a television program being presented at a normal presentation speed; and

in response to said determining;

presenting the television program at a non-normal presentation speed; and

interacting with the user regarding user-selectable objects in the television program being presented at the non-normal presentation speed.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein said determining comprises receiving a user command indicating that a user desires to select a user-selectable object in the television program being presented at a normal presentation speed.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein said determining comprises determining that a user is pointing to an area associated with a screen on which the television program is being presented.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein said presenting the television program at a non-normal presentation speed comprises presenting the television program in a paused state.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein said interacting with the user regarding user-selectable objects in the television program comprises outputting a visible indication identifying a user-selectable object in the television program as being user-selectable.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein said interacting with the user regarding user-selectable objects in the television program comprises outputting said visible indication on the television program being presented at the non-normal presentation speed, where said visible indication is not output on the television program being presented at the normal presentation speed.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein:

presenting the television program at a non-normal presentation speed comprises presenting the television program on a screen; and

said interacting comprises determining a location on the screen indicated by a user and outputting an indication of the determined location on the screen.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein:

presenting the television program at a non-normal presentation speed comprises presenting the television program on a screen; and

said interacting comprises identifying a user-selectable object being selected by a user, and outputting an indication of the identified object on the screen.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the television program being presented at a normal presentation speed is being presented on a first screen;

said presenting the television program at a non-normal presentation speed comprises presenting the television program on a second screen; and

said interacting with the user comprises interacting with the user on the second screen.

10. The method of claim 1, comprising, while presenting the television program at a non-normal presentation speed and interacting with the user regarding user-selectable objects in the television program, recording the television program.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein:

presenting the television program at a non-normal presentation speed comprises presenting the television program on a screen; and

said interacting comprises identifying a user-selectable object selected by a user, and presenting identity information for the identified object on the screen.

12. The method of claim 1, comprising determining when said interacting is complete based, at least in part, on one or both of:

explicit user input and/or expiration of a timer.

13. The method of claim 1, comprising, after determining that said interacting is complete, presenting the television program at a normal presentation speed.

14. The method of claim 1, comprising, after determining that said interacting is complete, providing one or more user interface options by which a user may synchronize presentation of the television program to the network broadcast of the television program.

15. A television system for providing for user selection of an object in television programming, the television system comprising:

at least one module operable to, at least;

determine that a user desires to select a user-selectable object in a television program being presented at a normal presentation speed; and

in response to said determining;

present the television program at a non-normal presentation speed; and

interact with the user regarding user-selectable objects in the television program being presented at the non-normal presentation speed.

16. The television system of claim 15, wherein the at least one module is operable to determine that a user desires to select a user-selectable object in a television program being presented at a normal presentation speed by, at least in part, operating to receive a user command indicating that a user desires to select a user-selectable object in the television program being presented at a normal presentation speed.

The television system of claim 15, wherein the at least one module is operable to determine that a user desires to select a user-selectable object in a television program being presented at a normal presentation speed by, at least in part, operating to determine that a user is pointing to an area associated with a screen on which the television program is being presented.

18. The television system of claim 15, wherein the at least one module is operable to present the television program at a non-normal presentation speed by, at least in part, operating to present the television program in a paused state.

19. The television system of claim 15, wherein the at least one module is operable to interact with the user regarding user-selectable objects in the television program being presented at the non-normal presentation speed by, at least in part, operating to output a visible indication identifying a user-selectable object in the television program as being user-selectable.

The television system of claim 19, wherein the at least one module is operable to interact with the user regarding user-selectable objects in the television program being presented at the non-normal presentation speed by, at least in part, operating to output said visible indication on the television program being presented at the non-normal presentation speed, where said visible indication is not output on the television program being presented at the normal presentation speed.

21. The television system of claim 15, wherein:

the at least one module is operable to present the television program at a non-normal presentation speed by, at least in part, operating to present the television program on a screen; and

the at least one module is operable to interact with the user regarding user-selectable objects in the television program being presented at the non-normal presentation speed by, at least in part, operating to determine a location on the screen indicated by a user and output an indication of the determined location on the screen.

22. The television system of claim 15, wherein:

the at least one module is operable to present the television program at a non-normal presentation speed by, at least in part, operating to present the television program on a screen; and

the at least one module is operable to interact with the user regarding user-selectable objects in the television program being presented at the non-normal presentation speed by, at least in part, operating to identify a user-selectable object being selected by a user, and output an indication of the identified object on the screen.

23. The television system of claim 15, wherein:

the television program being presented at a normal presentation speed is being presented on a first screen;

the at least one module is operable to present the television program at a non-normal presentation speed by, at least in part, operating to present the television program on a second screen; and

the at least one module is operable to interact with the user regarding user-selectable objects in the television program being presented at the non-normal presentation speed by, at least in part, operating to interact with the user on the second screen.

24. The television system of claim 15, wherein the at least one module is operable to, while operating to present the television program at a non-normal presentation speed and interact with the user regarding user-selectable objects in the television program, record the television program.

25. The television system of claim 15, wherein:

the at least one module is operable to present the television program at a non-normal presentation speed by, at least in part, operating to present the television program on a screen; and

the at least one module is operable to interact with the user regarding user-selectable objects in the television program being presented at the non-normal presentation speed by, at least in part, operating to identify a user-selectable object selected by a user, and present identity information for the identified object on the screen.

26. The television system of claim 15, wherein the at least one module is operable to determine when said interacting is complete based, at least in part, on one or both of:

explicit user input and/or expiration of a timer.

27. The television system of claim 15 wherein the at least one module is operable to, after operating to determine that said interacting is complete, present the television program at a normal presentation speed.

28. The television system of claim 15 wherein the at least one module is operable to, after operating to determine that said interacting is complete, provide one or more user interface options by which a user may synchronize presentation of the television program to the network broadcast of the television program.
