Abstract

A method of informing a network of a change of user equipment capability includes: receiving, by a network, a register request message carrying information of new user equipment capability to from a user equipment; analyzing, by the network, the register request message, and storing the information of new user equipment capability for reference by subsequent establishment of a session; stopping a current registration timer on the server side set for the user equipment; initiating a new registration timer on the server side for the user equipment; and sending a response message carrying information of the new registration timer on the server side to the user equipment so as to reset a registration timer on the user side based on information of the new registration timer on the server side in the response message. The capability change is informed to the network in time.

Claims

1. A method of informing a network of a change of user equipment capability, the method comprising:

receiving a register request message carrying information of new user equipment capability from a user equipment;

analyzing the register request message;

storing the information of new user equipment capability for reference by subsequent establishment of a session;

stopping a current registration timer on a server side set for the user equipment;

initiating a new registration timer on the server side for the user equipment; and

sending a response message carrying information of the new registration timer on the server side to the user equipment so as to reset a registration timer on the user side based on information of the new registration timer on the server side in the response message.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the response message comprises a 200 OK message.

3. The method according to claim 1, further comprising storing, by network nodes responsible for processing a session, the information of the new user equipment capability.

4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the information of the registration timer on the server side means a new time length set by the network for resetting the registration timer on the user side or the shortest and longest refresh time allowed by the network.

The method according to claim 1, further comprising determining that the register request message is one sent due to the user equipment capability change if the register request message carries the information of user equipment capability and the current registration timer on the server side has not expired.

6. The method according to claim 1, wherein the method is triggered automatically when the user equipment monitors a change of the user equipment capability.

7. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:

determining, by a P-CSCF, an access point of home network through checking domain name of the home network;

obtaining, by the P-CSCF, an address of the access point of the home network through parsing the domain name; and

sending, by the P-CSCF, the register request message to the access point of the home network, wherein the register request message comprises changed capability information of the user equipment.

The method according to claim 7, further comprising sending, by the P-CSCF, according to the information of the new user equipment capability and considering a filter rule obtained from user information, a register information to a corresponding service control platform to execute appropriate service control processes.

9. A method of informing a network of a change of user equipment capability, the method comprising:

sending, by a user equipment, a register request message carrying information of new user equipment capability to a network so as that the network analyzes the register request message, stores the information of new user equipment capability for reference by subsequent establishment of a session;

stops a current registration timer on the server side set for the user equipment; and

initiates a new registration timer on the server side for the user equipment;

receiving, by the user equipment, a response message carrying information of the new registration timer on the server side from the network; and

resetting, by the user equipment, a registration timer on the user side based on information of the new registration timer on the server side in the response message.

10. The method according to claim 9, wherein the response message comprises a 200 OK message.

11. The method according to claim 9, wherein the information of the new user equipment capability is stored in network nodes responsible for processing a session.

12. The method according to claim 9, wherein the information of the registration timer on the server side means a new time length set by the network for resetting the registration timer on the user side or the shortest and longest refresh time allowed by the network.

The method according to claim 9, wherein if the register request message carries the information of user equipment capability and the current registration timer on the server side has not expired, the network determines that the register request message is one sent due to the user equipment capability change.

14. The method according to claim 9, further comprising:

initiating, by the user equipment, a re-register if capability of the user equipment has changed, no matter whether current registration timer has expired;

stopping, by the user equipment, the registration timer on the server side set during the previous register the UE;

constructing, by the user equipment, a new register request message; and

sending, by the user equipment, the new register request message to a P-CSCF, wherein the new register request message comprises changed capability information of the user equipment.

15. An apparatus, comprising:

means for receiving a register request message carrying information of new user equipment capability from a user equipment;

means for analyzing the register request message and storing the information of new user equipment capability for reference by subsequent establishment of a session;

means for stopping a current registration timer on the server side set for the user equipment;

means for initiating a new registration timer on the server side for the user equipment; and

means for sending a response message carrying information of the new registration timer on the server side to the user equipment so as to reset a registration timer on the user side based on information of the new registration timer on the server side in the response message.

16. The apparatus according to claim 15, wherein the response message comprises a 200 OK message.

17. The apparatus according to claim 15, further comprising network nodes responsible for processing a session, the network nodes configured to store the information of the new user equipment capability.

18. The apparatus according to claim 15, wherein the information of the registration timer on the server side means a new time length set by the network for resetting the registration timer on the user side or the shortest and longest refresh time allowed by the network.

19. The apparatus according to claim 15, further comprising means for determining that the register request message is one sent due to the user equipment capability change if the register request message carries the information of user equipment capability and the current registration timer on the server side has not expired.

20. The apparatus according to claim 15, further comprising a P-CSCF, configured to determine an access point of home network through checking domain name of the home network;

obtain an address of the access point of the home network through parsing the domain name, and send the register request message to the access point of the home network, wherein the register request message comprises changed capability information of the user equipment.

The apparatus according to claim 20, wherein the P-CSCF is configured to send, according to the information of the new user equipment capability and considering a filter rule obtained from user information, a register information to a corresponding service control platform to execute appropriate service control processes.

22. A user equipment, comprising:

means for sending a register request message carrying information of new user equipment capability to a network so as that the network analyzes the register request message, stores the information of new user equipment capability for reference by subsequent establishment of a session;

stops a current registration timer on the server side set for the user equipment; and

initiates a new registration timer on the server side for the user equipment;

means for receiving a response message carrying information of the new registration timer on the server side from the network; and

means for resetting a registration timer on the user side based on information of the new registration timer on the server side in the response message.

23. The user equipment according to claim 22, wherein the response message comprises a 200 OK message.

24. The user equipment according to claim 22, wherein the information of the registration timer on the server side means a new time length set by the network for resetting the registration timer on the user side or the shortest and longest refresh time allowed by the network.

25. The user equipment according to claim 22, further comprising:

means for initiating a re-register if capability of the user equipment has changed, no matter whether current registration timer has expired;

means for stopping the registration timer on the server side set during the previous register the UE;

means for constructing a new register request message; and

means for sending the new register request message to a P-CSCF, wherein the new register request message comprises changed capability information of the user equipment.
