1. A method comprising:
- monitoring, by a network captured traffic distribution device communicatively coupled to a plurality of network captured traffic distribution devices arranged in a stacked topology via a plurality of communication links, a status of at least one of the stacked topology, a network captured traffic distribution device included in the stacked topology, a network communicatively coupled to the stacked topology, and a network device communicatively coupled to the stacked topology;
detecting, by the network captured traffic distribution device, a change in the status of at least one of the stacked topology, a network captured traffic distribution device included in the stacked topology, a network communicatively coupled to the stacked topology, and a network device communicatively coupled to the stacked topology; and
adjusting, by the network captured traffic distribution device, the configuration information included in the network captured traffic distribution device responsively to the detected change.

For example, a network captured traffic distribution device communicatively coupled to a plurality of network captured traffic distribution devices arranged in a stacked topology via a communication link may monitor a status of the stacked topology, a network captured traffic distribution device included in the stacked topology, a network communicatively coupled to the stacked topology, and/or a network device communicatively coupled to the stacked topology. Configuration information included in the network captured traffic distribution device may be updated responsively to the monitoring.

a plurality of bi-directional ports configured to perform at least one of receiving captured network traffic and echoing received captured network traffic to one or more of the plurality of bi-directional ports; an egress port configured to transmit received captured network traffic externally from the network captured traffic distribution device; a stacking port configured to enable, via a communication link, the stacking of the network captured traffic distribution device with at least one additional network captured traffic distribution device in a stacked topology wherein the stacking includes an exchange of configuration information between the network captured traffic distribution device and the additional network captured traffic distribution device; a processor configured to manage distribution of received captured network traffic through the network captured traffic distribution device, monitor a status of at least one of the stacked topology, the network captured traffic distribution device included in the stacked topology, a network communicatively coupled to the stacked topology, and a network device communicatively coupled to the stacked topology, detect a change in the status of at least one of the stacked topology, the network captured traffic distribution device included in the stacked topology, a network communicatively coupled to the stacked topology, and a network device communicatively coupled to the stacked topology, and adjust the configuration information stored in a memory responsively to a detected change; and the memory configured to store configuration information associated with the network captured traffic distribution device and an adjustment to the configuration information. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17)

monitoring, by a network captured traffic distribution device communicatively coupled to a plurality of network captured traffic distribution devices arranged in a stacked topology via a plurality of communication links, a status of at least one of the stacked topology, the network captured traffic distribution device included in the stacked topology, a network communicatively coupled to the network captured traffic distribution device, and a network device communicatively coupled to the network captured traffic distribution device; detecting, by the network captured traffic distribution device, a change in the status of at least one of the stacked topology, the network captured traffic distribution device included in the stacked topology, a network communicatively coupled to the network captured traffic distribution device, and a network device communicatively coupled to the network captured traffic distribution device; adjusting, by the network captured traffic distribution device, the configuration information included in the network captured traffic distribution device responsively to the detected change; and transmitting at least one of the detected change and the adjusted configuration information to an additional the network captured traffic distribution device included in the stacked topology.
