Abstract

A method and apparatus for controlling or determining transmit power of transmissions on more than one component carrier (CC) is disclosed. A WTRU may set a transmit power for each of a plurality of channels mapped to multiple CCs. The channels may include at least one physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) and may also include at least one physical uplink control channel (PUCCH).

Claims

1. A method of transmit power control in a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:

determining by the WTRU a transmit power for a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) or physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) mapped to a first or second component carrier (CC);

determining by the WTRU the transmit power of the PUSCH or PUCCH, such that a total transmit power of the PUSCH and PUCCH in a subframe is below a maximum transmit power for the first or second CC;

determining by the WTRU a transmit power difference between the first and second CC and comparing the transmit power difference to a maximum transmit power difference; and

raising or lowering by the WTRU the transmit power of the first or second CC to keep the transmit power difference between the first and second CC below the maximum transmit power difference.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising raising by the WTRU transmit power of the first CC if it is a high priority CC.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein a PUCCH is a high priority channel, a PUSCH with uplink control information (UCI) is a next highest priority channel, and a PUSCH without UCI is a lowest priority channel.

4. The method of claim 1 further comprising carrying both a PUSCH and a PUCCH on the first CC and raising transmit power on the first CC such that the transmit power difference between the first and second CC is below the maximum transmit power difference.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising designating the second CC as a lower priority CC and dropping the second CC if transmit power cannot be raised to a level below the maximum transmit power difference without exceeding the maximum transmit power for the first and second CC.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

providing by the WTRU a plurality of CCs, each CC having one or more PUSCHs and PUCCHs;

providing a plurality of power amplifiers (PAs) in the WTRU; and

reducing by the WTRU a transmit power difference between pairs of CCs in the plurality of CCs exceeding the maximum transmit power difference, based on priority and largest transmit power differences.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising decreasing by the WTRU the transmit power of the second CC if it is a low priority strong CC causing the maximum transmit power difference between the first and second CC to be exceeded.

8. The method of claim 1 further comprising increasing by the WTRU the PUCCH transmit power up to the maximum transmit power to resolve a maximum transmit power difference between a PUCCH and a PUSCH, if the PUSCH transmit power is higher than the PUCCH transmit power.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising decreasing by the WTRU the PUSCH transmit power if it is higher than the PUCCH transmit power in relation to the maximum transmit power difference between the PUCCH and PUSCH.

10. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising:

circuitry configured to determine a transmit power for a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) or physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) mapped to a first or second component carrier (CC);

circuitry configured to determine the transmit power of the PUSCH or PUCCH, such that a total transmit power of the plurality of PUSCH and PUCCH in a subframe is below a maximum transmit power for the first or second CC;

circuitry configured to determine a transmit power difference between the first and second CC and comparing the transmit power difference to a maximum transmit power difference; and

circuitry configured to raise or lower transmit power of the first or second CC to keep the transmit power difference between the first and second CC below the maximum transmit power difference.

11. The WTRU of claim 10 further comprising circuitry configured to raise transmit power of the first CC if it is a high priority CC with a weak transmit power.

12. The WTRU of claim 11 wherein a PUCCH is a highest priority channel, a PUSCH with uplink control information (UCI) is a next highest priority channel, and a PUSCH without UCI is a lowest priority channel.

13. The WTRU of claim 10 further comprising circuitry configured to carry both a PUSCH and a PUCCH on the first CC and raise transmit power on the first CC such that the transmit power difference between the first and second CC is below the maximum transmit power difference.

The WTRU of claim 10 further comprising circuitry configured to designate the second CC as a lower priority CC and drop the second CC if transmit power cannot be raised to a level below the maximum transmit power difference without exceeding the maximum transmit power of the first and second CC.

15. The WTRU of claim 10 further comprising:

circuitry configured to provide a plurality of CCs, where each CC has one or more PUSCHs and PUCCHs;

circuitry configured to provide a plurality of power amplifiers (PAs) in the WTRU; and

circuitry configured to reduce a transmit power difference between pairs of CCs in the plurality of CCs exceeding the maximum transmit power difference based on priority and largest transmit power differences.

16. The WTRU of claim 10 further comprising circuitry configured to decrease the transmit power of the second CC if it is a low priority strong CC causing the maximum transmit power difference between the first and second CC to be exceeded.

17. The WTRU of claim 10 further comprising circuitry configured to increase the PUCCH transmit power up to the maximum transmit power to resolve a maximum transmit power difference between a PUCCH and a PUSCH, if the PUSCH transmit power is higher than the PUCCH transmit power.

18. The WTRU of claim 10 further comprising circuitry configured to decrease the PUSCH transmit power if it is higher than the PUCCH transmit power in relation to the maximum transmit power difference between the PUCCH and PUSCH.
