Abstract

Systems, devices, software and methods are provided, for making a decision as to whether to administer an electric shock to a patient. The decision can be made differently, depending on whether the patient has already been shocked or not.

Claims

20. A method, comprising:

receiving latter data collected from a patient during a session; and

deciding from the latter data whether a latter electric shock should be administered or not to the patient, the decision being according to a first decision manner if no early electric shock has been administered to the patient during the session prior to when the latter data was collected, and according to a second decision manner different from the first decision manner otherwise.

1. A defibrillator, comprising:

an energy storage module for storing electrical charge;

a defibrillation port for guiding via electrodes the stored electrical charge to a person; and

a processor configured to;

receive latter data collected from a patient during a session; and

decide from the latter data whether a latter electric shock should be administered or not to the patient, the decision being according to a first decision manner if no early electric shock has been administered to the patient during the session prior to when the latter data was collected, and according to a second decision manner different from the first decision manner otherwise.

2. The defibrillator of claim 1, in which

the latter data includes ECG data of the patient.

3. The defibrillator of claim 1, in which the processor is further configured to:

receive early data collected from the patient during the session but before the latter data was collected; and

decide from the early data whether the early electric shock should be administered or not to the patient.

4. The defibrillator of claim 3, in which the processor is further configured to:

if it is decided that the early electric shock should be administered, cause the early electric shock to be administered.

5. The defibrillator of claim 3, in which

it is decided whether the early electric shock should be administered or not according to the first decision manner.

6. The defibrillator of claim 3, in which

it is decided whether the early electric shock should be administered or not according to an early decision manner that is different from the first decision manner.

7. The defibrillator of claim 1, in which the processor is further configured to:

if it is decided that the latter electric shock should be administered, cause the latter electric shock to be administered.

8. The defibrillator of claim 7, in which the processor is further configured to:

receive latest data collected from the patient after the latter electric shock has been administered; and

decide from the latest data whether a latest electric shock should be administered or not to the patient, the decision being according to a third decision manner different from the second decision manner.

9. The defibrillator of claim 1, in which

the decision according to the first decision manner includes using a different algorithm than the second decision manner.

10. The defibrillator of claim 1, in which

a scoring parameter is computed from the latter data by an algorithm,

deciding according to the first decision manner includes deciding that the latter shock should be administered if the scoring parameter meets a first condition, but should not be administered otherwise, and

deciding according to the second decision manner includes deciding that the latter shock should be administered if the scoring parameter meets a second condition but should not be administered otherwise, the second condition being different from the first condition.

11. The defibrillator of claim 10, in which

the first condition is that the scoring parameter is larger than a first shocking threshold, and

the second condition is that the scoring parameter is larger than a second shocking threshold different from the first shocking threshold.

12. The defibrillator of claim 1, in which

the latter data is ECG data collected while the patient has been receiving chest compressions, and

an artifact caused by the chest compressions is further removed from the latter data.

13. The defibrillator of claim 12, in which

the artifact is collected independently from the ECG data.

14. The defibrillator of claim 12, in which

the artifact is derived from the ECG data.

15. The defibrillator of claim 12, in which

a scoring parameter is computed from the latter data by an algorithm,

deciding according to the first decision manner includes deciding that the latter shock should be administered if the scoring parameter meets a first condition, but should not be administered otherwise, and

deciding according to the second decision manner includes deciding that the latter shock should be administered if the scoring parameter meets a second condition but should not be administered otherwise, the second condition being different from the first condition.

16. The defibrillator of claim 15, in which

the first condition is that the scoring parameter is larger than a first shocking threshold, and

the second condition is that the scoring parameter is larger than a second shocking threshold different from the first shocking threshold.

17. The defibrillator of claim 12, in which

when it is decided that the latter electric shock should not be administered, a prompt is caused to be issued for pausing the chest compressions if a confidence condition is not met, the confidence condition being different for the first decision manner than for the second decision manner.

18. The defibrillator of claim 17, in which

a confidence score is computed,

the confidence condition is not met if the confidence score is less than a confidence threshold, and

the confidence threshold is different for the first decision manner than the second decision manner.

19. The defibrillator of claim 17, in which

a scoring parameter is computed from the latter data by an algorithm,

deciding according to the first decision manner includes deciding that the latter shock should be administered if the scoring parameter is larger than a first shocking threshold, but should not be administered otherwise,

deciding according to the second decision manner includes deciding that the latter shock should be administered if the scoring parameter is larger than a second shocking threshold but should not be administered otherwise, the second shocking threshold being different from the first shocking threshold,

the confidence condition is not met if the scoring parameter is larger than a confidence threshold, and

the confidence threshold is different for the first decision manner than the second decision manner.

21. The method of claim 20, in which

the latter data includes ECG data of the patient.

22. The method of claim 20, further comprising:

receiving early data collected from the patient during the session but before the latter data was collected; and

deciding from the early data whether the early electric shock should be administered or not to the patient.

23. The method of claim 22, further comprising:

if it is decided that the early electric shock should be administered, causing the early electric shock to be administered.

24. The method of claim 22, in which

it is decided whether the early electric shock should be administered or not according to the first decision manner.

25. The method of claim 22, in which

it is decided whether the early electric shock should be administered or not according to an early decision manner that is different from the first decision manner.

26. The method of claim 20, further comprising:

if it is decided that the latter electric shock should be administered, causing the latter electric shock to be administered.

27. The method of claim 26, further comprising:

receiving latest data collected from the patient after the latter electric shock has been administered; and

deciding from the latest data whether a latest electric shock should be administered or not to the patient, the decision being according to a third decision manner different from the second decision manner.

28. The method of claim 20, in which

the decision according to the first decision manner includes using a different algorithm than the second decision manner.

29. The method of claim 20, in which

a scoring parameter is computed from the latter data by an algorithm,

deciding according to the first decision manner includes deciding that the latter shock should be administered if the scoring parameter meets a first condition, but should not be administered otherwise, and

deciding according to the second decision manner includes deciding that the latter shock should be administered if the scoring parameter meets a second condition but should not be administered otherwise, the second condition being different from the first condition.

30. The method of claim 29, in which

the first condition is that the scoring parameter is larger than a first shocking threshold, and

the second condition is that the scoring parameter is larger than a second shocking threshold different from the first shocking threshold.

31. The method of claim 20, in which

the latter data is ECG data collected while the patient has been receiving chest compressions, and

an artifact caused by the chest compressions is further removed from the latter data.

32. The method of claim 31, in which

the artifact is collected independently from the ECG data.

33. The method of claim 31, in which

the artifact is derived from the ECG data.

34. The method of claim 31, in which

a scoring parameter is computed from the latter data by an algorithm,

deciding according to the first decision manner includes deciding that the latter shock should be administered if the scoring parameter meets a first condition, but should not be administered otherwise, and

deciding according to the second decision manner includes deciding that the latter shock should be administered if the scoring parameter meets a second condition but should not be administered otherwise, the second condition being different from the first condition.

35. The method of claim 34, in which

the first condition is that the scoring parameter is larger than a first shocking threshold, and

the second condition is that the scoring parameter is larger than a second shocking threshold different from the first shocking threshold.

36. The method of claim 31, in which

when it is decided that the latter electric shock should not be administered, a prompt is caused to be issued for pausing the chest compressions if a confidence condition is not met, the confidence condition being different for the first decision manner than for the second decision manner.

38. The method of claim 36, in which

a confidence score is computed,

the confidence condition is not met if the confidence score is less than a confidence threshold, and

the confidence threshold is different for the first decision manner than the second decision manner.

38-1. The method of claim 36, in which

a scoring parameter is computed from the latter data by an algorithm,

deciding according to the first decision manner includes deciding that the latter shock should be administered if the scoring parameter is larger than a first shocking threshold, but should not be administered otherwise,

deciding according to the second decision manner includes deciding that the latter shock should be administered if the scoring parameter is larger than a second shocking threshold but should not be administered otherwise, the second shocking threshold being different from the first shocking threshold,

the confidence condition is not met if the scoring parameter is larger than a confidence threshold, and

the confidence threshold is different for the first decision manner than the second decision manner.

39. An article comprising:

a storage medium, the storage medium having instructions stored thereon, in which when the instructions are executed by a processor, they result in;

receiving latter data collected from a patient during a session; and

deciding from the latter data whether a latter electric shock should be administered or not to the patient, the decision being according to a first decision manner if no early electric shock has been administered to the patient during the session prior to when the latter data was collected, and according to a second decision manner different from the first decision manner otherwise.
