Abstract

The present invention features a coke drum de-heading system. The de-header valve is equipped with a valve body, a gate, a transmission system and an actuator. Actuation of the valve closure functions to open and close the de-header valve.

Claims

1. A valve actuator comprising:

a transmission assembly

a rotating screw comprising a threaded external surface structured to operably engage the transmission assembly; and

a hollow valve stem coupled to the housing assembly and structured to receive the rotating screw inside a valve stem recess.

2. The valve actuator of claim 1, where in the transmission assembly comprises housing assembly, the housing assembly comprising a threaded internal surface;

3. The valve actuator of claim 2, wherein the housing assembly further comprises a housing coupling coupled to a drive nut, the drive nut comprising the threaded internal surface.

4. The valve actuator of claim 3, wherein the housing assembly further comprises a retainer ring operably disposed between the housing coupling and the drive nut.

5. The valve actuator of claim 4, wherein the retainer ring is comprised of one of a ring and two semi circle rings.

6. The valve actuator of claim 4, wherein the retainer ring is structured to couple to a valve stem.

7. The valve actuator of claim 6, wherein retainer ring is structured to prevent torque on the valve stem.

8. The valve actuator of claim 2, further comprising a wear block coupled to the housing assembly.

9. The valve actuator of claim 8, wherein the wear block is coupled to the housing assembly by a lock bolt.

10. The valve actuator of claim 9, wherein the lock bolt further comprises a positional flag.

11. The valve actuator of claim 2, wherein the rotating screw is a non-rising stem.

12. The valve actuator of claim 7, further comprising a support tower in slidably engagement with the wear block of the housing assembly.

13. The valve actuator of claim 12, wherein the support tower further comprises at least one longitudinal groove along which the wear block tracks.

14. The valve actuator of claim 13, wherein the support tower further comprises a cover over the longitudinal grooves, effectively blocking entrance of debris into the support tower.

15. The valve actuator of claim 1, further comprising an actuator.

16. The valve actuator of claim 15, wherein the actuator further comprises a manual override, allowing for manual torque to be applied to the rotating screw.

17. The valve actuator of claim 1, further comprising at least one designed shear point.

18. The valve actuator of claim 15, wherein the shear point comprises one of key way slots and double key way slots.

19. The valve actuator of claim 17, further comprising a retainer ring structured to act as a secondary shear point.

20. The valve actuator of claim 19, further comprising a lock bolt structured to act as a tertiary shear point.

21. The valve actuator of claim 1, wherein the valve actuator system is coupled to a coke drum deheader valve.

22. The valve actuator of claim 21, wherein the deheader valve further comprises a valve body, a gate and a seat system.

23. The valve actuator of claim 22, wherein said seat system comprises at least one live loaded dynamic seat.

24. The valve actuator of claim 22, wherein the seat system comprises at least one static seat.

25. A valve actuator transmission system;

an electric actuator;

a rotating screw operably engaging the electric actuator;

a valve stem operably coupled to the rotating screw by a transmission system,

wherein the transmission system is structured to eliminate torque applied to the valve stem by the rotating screw.

26. A non-rising valve actuator comprising:

compact actuation unit, wherein actuation stem does not extend beyond actuator into workspace;

a housing assembly comprising a threaded internal surface;

a non-rising stem comprising a threaded external surface operably engaging the threaded internal surface of the housing assembly

a hollow valve stem coupled to the housing assembly and structured to receive the non-rising stem.

27. A system for converting rotary motion into linear motion:

a transmission assembly comprising a threaded internal surface;

a rotating screw comprising a threaded external surface operably engaging the threaded internal surface of the transmission assembly

a hollow valve stem coupled to the transmission assembly and structured to receive the rotating screw.

28. An system for use with a valve having a blind member moveable between a first position in which said valve is closed and a second position in which said valve is open comprising:

a housing assembly comprising a threaded internal surface;

a rotating screw comprising a threaded external surface operably engaging the threaded internal surface of the housing assembly;

a reversible electric motor having an output mechanically connected to the rotating screw; and

a hollow valve stem coupled to the housing assembly and structured to receive the rotating screw.

29. A method of actuating a valve comprising:

rotating a rotating screw;

allowing a threaded external surface of the rotating screw to operably engage a threaded internal surface of a housing assembly;

allowing the housing assembly to translate rotational forces exerted via relationship between the threaded external surface of the rotating screw and the threaded internal surface of the housing assembly to longitudinal movement of the housing assembly; and

mechanically communicating longitudinal displacement of housing assembly to a valve stem, effectively moving a valve.

30. A valve actuator comprising:

An electric actuator structured to be retrofit into a foot print formerly occupied by an hydraulic actuator.
