Abstract

A system and method is disclosed for presenting relevant advertising to user search queries. The ads can be selected by reference to an underlying content presented in web logs.

Claims

1. A method of using a computing system to present advertising information within a web log (blog) page comprising:

compiling blog content from said blog with the computing system;

generating a set of search results based on said blog content with the computing system;

wherein said search results include references to one or more separate webpages;

processing content extracted from selected ones of said one or more separate webpages with the computing system to identify one or more topics;

presenting at least one first advertisement with the computing system within a web page of said blog based on said one or more topics.

2. The method of claim 1 further including the steps of:

selecting a set of blogs from a plurality of blog pages based on a first criteria with the computing system; and

defining a blog collective based on said set of blogs, which blog collective represents a set of affiliated members who provide said blog content.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein said least one first advertisement is presented by the computing system along with other advertisements which are provided based on a comparison of content of said blog.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein said blog content is compiled on a dynamic basis by the computing system.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein said first advertisement is also presented as part of an RSS feed within the blog.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein said least one first advertisement is presented along with other advertisements which are provided based on a comparison of content of said blog.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein said at least one first advertisement is presented when other advertisements based on a comparison of content of said blog are not available or not cost competitive with said at least one first advertisement.

8. The method of claim 1 further including a step:

providing consideration to one or more operators and/or owners of said separate webpages in response to a follow up action taken on said first advertisement.

9. The method of claim 1 further including a step:

evaluating suitable ads for said blog based on an analysis of said search results.

10. The method of claim 1 further including a step:

evaluating suitability of said blog for one or more advertisements.

11. A method of using a computing system to present advertising information within a web log (blog) page comprising:

compiling blog content from said blog with the computing system to derive a set of individual blog topics related to said blog content;

generating a set of search results with the computing system based on using said set of individual blog topics derived from said blog content as content search terms;

wherein said search results for said content search terms include references to one or more separate webpages;

processing content extracted from selected ones of said one or more separate webpages with the computing system to identify one or more matching topics which match one or more of said set of individual blog topics;

presenting at least one first advertisement with the computing system within a web page of said blog based on comparing said one or more matching topics to said set of individual blog topics;

12. A system for presenting advertising information within a web log (Blog) comprising:

a first machine executable routine configured to compile blog content from said blog;

a second machine executable routine configured to generate a set of search results based on said blog content;

wherein said search results include references to one or more separate webpages;

a third machine executable routine configured to process search content extracted from selected ones of said one or more separate webpages to identify one or more topics;

a fourth machine executable routine configured to present at least one first advertisement in connection with said blog on said one or more topics.
