1. A method comprising:
- (a) operating a deposit-accepting automated banking machine during a deposit transaction involving a customer to receive into an interior area of the machine, at least one check manually inserted through an access opening of the machine,wherein each respective check includes at least one radio frequency identification (RFID) tag,wherein the at least one RFID tag of each respective check includes at least one ofdeposit data corresponding to an identifier of a customer banking account to which the deposit is to be creditedanddeposit data corresponding to a financial amount being deposited,wherein the machine includes at least one RFID tag reader,wherein the machine is associated with at least one computer that is both in operative connection with the at least one RFID tag reader and operative to communicate with a financial transaction host computer;
(b) operating the machine during the deposit transaction to cause the at least one RFID tag reader to wirelessly read from each check, the at least one RFID tag;
(c) operating the machine during the deposit transaction to output at least one customer receipt which corresponds to the deposit transaction; and
(d) operating the at least one computer to cause to be sent to the financial transaction host computer, transaction data associated with the deposit transaction.

Abstract
A banking system is controlled responsive to data included on data bearing records. The system includes a deposit accepting machine for accepting deposit items, such as deposit bags, currency, and checks. The machine includes a card reader that can read card data corresponding to financial accounts, and a biometric reader that can read user identification data. The machine also includes an RFID reader that can read signals from RFID tags to obtain deposit information therefrom. The deposit information can include deposit data such as an account number and the deposit amount. The machine also includes a computer that causes a financial account to be credited for the value of deposited items, responsive to data read by the various reader devices.

deposit data corresponding to an identifier of a customer banking account to which the deposit is to be credited
