Abstract

A method is disclosed of printing copy of a document previously printed. The method starts by printing a list of documents previously printed by printing a list of history items and coded data associated with respective history items. Each history item corresponds to one of a plurality of documents previously printed. A sensing device then senses the coded data associated with one of the history items, and a computer system receives request data from the sensing device. The request data is dependent upon the coded data sensed by the sensing device. A copy of the document previously printed corresponding to the history item associated with the coded data sensed by the sensing device is retrieved and printed.

Claims

1. A method of printing copy of a document previously printed, the method comprising the steps of:

printing by a printer a list of documents previously printed by printing a list of history items and coded data associated with respective history items, each history item corresponding to one of a plurality of documents previously printed;

sensing by a sensing device the coded data associated with one of the history items;

receiving in a computer system request data from the sensing device, the request data being dependent upon the coded data sensed by the sensing device;

retrieving a copy of the document previously printed corresponding to the history item associated with the coded data sensed by the sensing device; and

printing the retrieved copy of the document.

A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the list of documents further includes coded data associated with a list print action, and upon receiving request data resulting from the sensing device sensing the coded data associated with the list print action, the method further comprises the step of printing a further list of documents.

A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the list of documents further includes further coded data associated with respective history items, and upon receiving request data resulting from the sensing device sensing the further coded data associated with one of the history items, the method further comprises the step of deleting the history item associated with the further coded data sensed by the sensing device.

4. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the list of documents is printed on a surface of a structure at the same time as the coded data is printed on the surface.

5. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the coded data is invisible to an average unaided human.

A method as claimed in claim 2, wherein the coded data identifies the printed list of documents and the method further comprises the step of retaining a retrievable record of the printed list of documents, the list of history items printed on the further list of documents corresponds to a retrieved list of documents.

7. A method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the sensing device has a unique identity, the method comprising the further step of identifying a user from an association between the identity of sensing device and the user, the list of history items being documents previously printed by the user.
