Abstract

A method for requesting a bandwidth by a message having a variable format is disclosed. The method includes determining a bandwidth request type according to a size of an uplink bandwidth requested by a mobile station, generating a bandwidth request message having a header format according to the determined bandwidth request type, and transmitting the bandwidth request message to a base station. The determined bandwidth request type is one of a bandwidth request per connection, a bandwidth request per Quality of Service (QoS), and a bandwidth request per mobile station.

16. A method for requesting a bandwidth, the method comprising:

at a mobile station, transmitting a dynamic service addition request (DSA-REQ) message including at least one QoS parameter of a new service flow to a base station for creating the new service flow;

receiving a dynamic service addition response (DSA-RSP) message including index parameter information from the base station in response to the DSA-REQ message, the index parameter information including at least one index determined by considering the at least one QoS parameter; and

transmitting a bandwidth request message to the base station for requesting an uplink bandwidth,

wherein the bandwidth request (BR) message includes one of the at least one index corresponds to the uplink bandwidth.

17. The method according to claim 16, wherein the at least one QoS parameter comprises a grant scheduling type, a maximum latency, a minimum reserved traffic rate, and a priority.

18. The method according to claim 16, further comprising receiving an uplink resource allocation according to the index included in the BR message from the base station.

19. The method according to claim 16, further comprising:

transmitting a dynamic service change request (DSC-REQ) message including at least one changed QoS parameter of the new service flow to the base station, after the new service flow has been created; and

receiving a dynamic service change response (DSC-RSP) message including new index parameter information from the base station in response to the DSC-REQ message,

wherein the new index parameter information includes at least one new index determined by considering the at least one changed QoS parameter.

20. A method for requesting a bandwidth, the method comprising:

at a mobile station, receiving a dynamic service addition request (DSA-REQ) message including at least one QoS parameter of a new service flow and index parameter information from a base station, the index parameter information including at least one index determined by considering the at least one QoS parameter;

transmitting a dynamic service addition response (DSA-RSP) message to the base station in response to the DSA-REQ message; and

transmitting a bandwidth request message to the base station for requesting an uplink bandwidth,

wherein the bandwidth request (BR) message includes one of the at least one index corresponds to the uplink bandwidth.

21. The method according to claim 20, wherein the at least one QoS parameter comprises a grant scheduling type, a maximum latency, a minimum reserved traffic rate, and a priority.

22. The method according to claim 20, further comprising receiving an uplink resource allocation according to the index included in the BR message from the base station.

23. The method according to claim 20, further comprising:

receiving a dynamic service change request (DSC-REQ) message including at least one changed QoS parameter of the new service flow and new index parameter information from the base station after the new service flow has been created, the new index parameter information including at least one new index determined by considering the at least one changed QoS parameter; and

transmitting a dynamic service change response (DSC-RSP) message to the base station in response to the DSC-REQ message.

24. A mobile station for requesting a bandwidth in a broadband wireless access system, the mobile station comprising:

a processor;

a transmission module configured to transmit a radio signal externally under the control of the processor; and

a reception module configured to receive a radio signal externally under the control of the processor,

wherein the processor controls a dynamic service addition request (DSA-REQ) message including at least one QoS parameter of a new service flow to a base station for creating the new service flow to be transmitted via the transmission module, and controls, if a dynamic service addition response (DSA-RSP) message including index parameter information is received from the base station via the reception module in response to the DSA-REQ message, a bandwidth request message for requesting an uplink bandwidth to be transmitted to the base station via the transmission module, and

wherein the index parameter information including at least one index determined by considering the at least one QoS parameter, and the bandwidth request (BR) message includes one of the at least one index corresponds to the uplink bandwidth.

25. The mobile station according to claim 24, wherein the at least one QoS parameter comprises a grant scheduling type, a maximum latency, a minimum reserved traffic rate, and a priority.

26. The mobile station according to claim 24, wherein the processor further controls an uplink resource allocation according to the index included in the BR message to be received from the base station.

The mobile station according to claim 24, wherein the processor further controls a dynamic service change request (DSC-REQ) message including at least one changed QoS parameter of the new service flow to be transmitted to the base station via the transmission module after creating the new service flow, and controls a dynamic service change response (DSC-RSP) message including new index parameter information to be received from the base station in response to the DSC-REQ message, and

wherein the new index parameter information includes at least one new index determined by considering the at least one changed QoS parameter.

28. A mobile station for requesting a bandwidth in a broadband wireless access system, the mobile station comprising:

a processor;

a transmission module configured to transmit a radio signal externally under the control of the processor; and

a reception module configured to receive a radio signal externally under the control of the processor,

wherein the processor controls, if a dynamic service addition request (DSA-REQ) message including at least one QoS parameter of a new service flow and index parameter information is received from a base station via the reception module, a dynamic service addition response (DSA-RSP) message to be transmitted to the base station via the transmission module in response to the DSA-REQ message, and controls a bandwidth request message for requesting an uplink bandwidth to be transmitted to the base station via the transmission module, and

wherein the index parameter information includes at least one index determined by considering the at least one QoS parameter and the bandwidth request (BR) message includes one of the at least one index corresponds to the uplink bandwidth.

29. The mobile station according to claim 28, wherein the at least one QoS parameter comprises a grant scheduling type, a maximum latency, a minimum reserved traffic rate, and a priority.

30. The mobile station according to claim 28, wherein the processor further controls an uplink resource allocation according to the index included in the BR message to be received from the base station.

The mobile station according to claim 28, wherein the processor further controls, if a dynamic service change request (DSC-REQ) message including at least one changed QoS parameter of the new service flow and new index parameter information is received from the base station via the reception module after the new service flow has been created, a dynamic service change response (DSC-RSP) message to be transmitted to the base station via the transmission module in response to the DSC-REQ message, and

wherein the new index parameter information includes at least one new index determined by considering the at least one changed QoS parameter;

and

32. A mobile station for requesting a bandwidth in a broadband wireless access system, the mobile station comprising:

a central processing unit;

a memory unit;

a radio communication (RF) unit configured to transceive a radio signal externally comprising;

an RF controller module;

a transmission module configured to transmit a radio signal externally under the control of the RF controller module; and

a reception module configured to receive a radio signal externally under the control of the RF controller module,

wherein the RF controller module controls a dynamic service addition request (DSA-REQ) message including at least one QoS parameter of a new service flow to a base station for creating the new service flow to be transmitted via the transmission module, and controls, if a dynamic service addition response (DSA-RSP) message including index parameter information is received from the base station via the reception module in response to the DSA-REQ message, a bandwidth request message for requesting an uplink bandwidth to be transmitted to the base station via the transmission module, and

wherein the index parameter information including at least one index determined by considering the at least one QoS parameter, and the bandwidth request (BR) message includes one of the at least one index corresponds to the uplink bandwidth.

33. The mobile station according to claim 32, wherein the at least one QoS parameter comprises a grant scheduling type, a maximum latency, a minimum reserved traffic rate, and a priority.

34. The mobile station according to claim 32, wherein the RF controller module further controls an uplink resource allocation according to the index included in the BR message to be received from the base station.
