Abstract

A receiver device for detecting a multi-band signal, the receiver device comprising a bank of autocorrelation units adapted for separating the multi-band signal into a set of autocorrelation signals, and a sampling stage arranged downstream the bank of autocorrelation units and adapted for sampling the set of autocorrelation signals to thereby select individual signal components for detection.

Claims

1. A receiver device for detecting a multi-band signal, the receiver device comprising

a bank of autocorrelation units adapted for separating the multi-band signal into a set of autocorrelation signals;

a sampling stage arranged downstream the bank of autocorrelation units and adapted for sampling the set of autocorrelation signals to thereby select individual signal components for detection,

wherein the bank of autocorrelation units is adapted as a non-coherent frontend receiver part.

2. The receiver device according to claim 1,

adapted for detecting a multi-carrier signal, particularly an ultra-wideband signal.

3. The receiver device according to claim 2,

wherein the multi-carrier signal is modulated by on/off key modulation.

4. The receiver device according to claim 2,

wherein the multi-carrier signal is modulated by pulse position modulation on parallel frequency carriers.

5. The receiver device according to claim 1,

wherein the bank of autocorrelation units and the sampling stage are connected as a plurality of signal processing branches which are connected in parallel to one another.

6. The receiver device according to claim 1,

wherein each of the autocorrelation units comprises

a delay unit adapted for delaying the multi-band signal by a predefined delay time;

a mixing unit, particularly a multiplication unit, adapted for mixing the delayed multi-band signal with the undelayed multi-band signal.

7. The receiver device according to claim 6,

wherein the predefined delay time differs for different ones of the autocorrelation units.

8. The receiver device according to claim 1,

wherein at least a part of the autocorrelation units comprises a frequency down converter, particularly arranged upstream the delay unit and upstream the mixing unit, adapted for converting the multi-band signal down to a baseband.

9. The receiver device according to claim 1,

wherein at least a part of the autocorrelation units comprises an integrate and dump unit, particularly arranged downstream the delay unit and downstream the mixing unit.

10. The receiver device according to claim 1,

wherein the sampling stage is adapted for sampling the set of autocorrelation signals synchronously.

11. The receiver device according to claim 1,

comprising a digital signal processing unit arranged downstream the sampling stage and adapted for separating the set of autocorrelation signals.

12. The receiver device according to claim 11,

wherein the digital signal processing unit is adapted for processing the set of autocorrelation signals by a linear signal processing scheme.

13. The receiver device according to claim 11,

wherein the digital signal processing unit is adapted for orthogonalizing the set of autocorrelation signals.

14. The receiver device according to claim 11,

wherein the digital signal processing unit comprises a Fourier transformation section adapted for Fourier transforming the set of autocorrelation signals.

15. The receiver device according to claim 14,

wherein the Fourier transformation section is adapted for Fourier transforming a power density spectrum of the multi-band signal from the set of autocorrelation signals.

16. The receiver device according to claim 11,

wherein the digital signal processing unit comprises an analog to digital converter section adapted for converting the set of autocorrelation signals into digital signals.

17. The receiver device according to claim 1,

comprising a multi-band signal reception unit, particularly an antenna, adapted for receiving the multi-band signal and for supplying the received multi-band signal to the bank of autocorrelation units.

18. A communication system, comprising

a sender device adapted for transmitting a multi-band signal;

and

a receiver device of claim 1 for receiving and detecting the multi-band signal.

19. The communication system according to claim 18,

adapted as one of the group consisting of a sensor network, a wireless data communication system, and a USB data communication system.

20. A method of detecting a multi-band signal, the method comprising

separating the multi-band signal into a set of autocorrelation signals by performing an autocorrelation of the multi-band signal by a bank of autocorrelation units;

sampling the set of autocorrelation signals to thereby select individual signal components for detection,

wherein the bank of autocorrelation units is adapted as a non-coherent frontend receiver part.

21. A computer-readable medium, in which a computer program of detecting a multi-band signal is stored, which computer program, when being executed by a processor, is adapted to carry out or control a method according to claim 20.

22. A program element of detecting a multi-band signal, which program element, when being executed by a processor, is adapted to carry out or control a method according to claim 20.
