Abstract

A surgical gown (100) includes a body-covering portion (101) and, optionally, sleeves (102,103). A surgery procedure verification card (120) can be attached to the surgical gown (100). The surgery procedure verification card (120), which can be configured to be selectively detachable from the surgical gown (100), is configured to facilitate a start of a surgical procedure after completion of a predetermined procedure. The surgical gown (100) can be color coded to indicate a barrier level or the presence of the surgery procedure verification card (120). The surgical gown (100) can be included in a surgical pack (400). The surgical pack (400) can include one or more surgical procedure gowns (401,402) that are not color-coded, as well as a surgical drape (440). Methods of using and manufacturing the surgical gown (100) are also described.

Claims

1. A gown comprising:

a body-covering portion; and

a procedure verification card, removably attached to the gown, and configured to facilitate a start of a medical procedure after completion of a predetermined procedure presented on the procedure verification card.

2. The gown of claim 1, wherein the procedure verification card is configured to facilitate verification of completion of the predetermined procedure presented on the procedure verification card.

3. The gown of claim 1, wherein the procedure verification card comprises an indicator upon which confirmation of completion of the predetermined procedure presented on the procedure verification card can be recorded.

4. The gown of claim 3, wherein the indicator can be placed in a patient'"'"'s medical records.

5. The gown of claim 3, wherein the indicator is removable from the procedure verification card.

6. The gown of claim 3, wherein the indicator comprises one or more of a label, a sticker, a decal, a stamp, an embossment, a tattoo, or an ink or screen-printed article.

7. The gown of claim 1, wherein the procedure verification card comprises a listing of conditions to be completed or verified prior to the start of the medical procedure.

8. The gown of claim 7, wherein the listing of conditions comprises one or more of:

confirming a correct site;

confirming a correct medical procedure;

confirming a correct patient; and

confirming a correct patient portion for the correct medical procedure.

9. The gown of claim 1, further comprising a neck binding coupled to the body-covering portion, wherein the neck binding comprises a color-coding indicating that the procedure verification card is attached to the gown.

10. The gown of claim 9, wherein the body-covering portion and the color-coding are different in color.

11. The gown of claim 9, wherein the color-coding comprises a stitched seam coupling the neck binding to the body-covering portion.

12. The gown of claim 11, wherein the stitched seam and the neck binding are different colors.

13. The gown of claim 9, further comprising sleeves coupled to the body-covering portion, wherein the sleeves terminate in cuffs, wherein the cuffs comprise the color-coding.

14. The gown of claim 9, wherein the gown is configured as a surgeon'"'"'s gown and is packaged with one or more medical procedure gowns, wherein only the surgeon'"'"'s gown comprises the color-coding.

15. The gown of claim 1, wherein the procedure verification card comprises a stop sign symbol.

16. The gown of claim 1, wherein the procedure verification card comprises one of “

STOP”

or “

S.T.O.P”

printed thereon.

17. The gown of claim 1, wherein the procedure verification card is color-coded.

18. The gown of claim 1, wherein the procedure verification card is coupled to the gown by one of an aperture through which gown material may be pulled, adhesive attachment, sewing, perforation, frictional attachment, press-fitting, pinning, snapping, or combinations thereof.

19. The gown of claim 1, wherein the gown is configured as one of a surgeon'"'"'s gown, a doctor'"'"'s gown, a physician'"'"'s gown, or a nurse'"'"'s gown.

20. The gown of claim 1, wherein the gown is packaged with a surgical drape, the surgical drape comprising:

a fenestration to be placed over a surgical site of a patient; and

a barrier removably attached to the surgical drape and adapted for placement over a portion of the fenestration to prevent the start of a surgical procedure until the predetermined procedure is completed.

21. The gown of claim 1, wherein the gown comprises one or more securement straps.

22. The gown of claim 21, wherein the procedure verification card is coupled to the one or more securement straps.

23. The gown of claim 1, wherein the procedure verification card is configured as a pass card.

24. A method of using a medical gown, comprising:

detaching a medical procedure verification card from the medical gown after donning the medical gown; and

verifying compliance with a predetermined procedure with the medical procedure verification card prior to beginning a medical procedure.

25. The method of claim 24, further comprising:

recording compliance with the predetermined procedure with the medical procedure verification card; and

one of;

placing the medical procedure verification card in a patient'"'"'s medical record after the recording;

or

detaching a removable indicator comprising the predetermined procedure from the medical procedure verification card and placing the removable indicator in the patient'"'"'s medical record after the verifying.

26. The method of claim 24, further comprising:

opening packaging comprising the medical gown and one or more medical procedure gowns; and

identifying the medical gown from a color-coding indicative of the medical procedure verification card being attached thereto.

27. The method of claim 24, further comprising:

placing a surgical drape over at least a part of a patient, the surgical drape comprising a fenestration and a barrier removably attached to the surgical drape and adapted for placement over a portion of the fenestration; and

removing the barrier after the verifying.

28. The method of claim 24, further comprising:

passing the medical procedure verification card to a non-sterile team member;

causing one or more securement straps to wrap the medical gown;

receiving the medical procedure verification card from the non-sterile team member;

securing the one or more securement straps; and

detaching the medical procedure verification card from the one or more securement straps.

29. A method of manufacturing a medical gown, comprising:

attaching a removable medical procedure verification card to the medical gown, wherein the removable medical procedure verification card is configured to facilitate a start of a medical procedure in accordance with a predetermined procedure;

color-coding the medical gown, wherein the color-coding is indicative of the removable medical procedure verification card being attached to the medical gown; and

packaging the medical gown in a package.

30. The method of claim 29, wherein the color-coding is configured in a neck binding of the medical gown.

31. The method of claim 29, further comprising assembling the medical gown with one or more procedure gowns prior to the packaging, wherein the one or more procedure gowns are non-color-coded.

32. The method of claim 29, further comprising assembling the medical gown with a surgical drape having a fenestration to be placed over a surgical site of a patient and a barrier, removably attached to the surgical drape and adapted for placement over a portion of the fenestration, the barrier being configured to prevent the start of a surgical procedure until the predetermined procedure is completed.

33. The method of claim 29, further comprising additionally color-coding the removable medical procedure verification card.

34. The method of claim 29, further comprising configuring the removable medical procedure verification card with a stop sign.

35. The method of claim 29, further comprising configuring the removable medical procedure verification card with “

Stop.”

36. The method of claim 29, wherein the attaching comprises attaching the removable medical procedure verification card to one or more securement devices coupled to the medical gown.
