4. A liquid crystal display, comprising:
-
a first substrate including a first pixel electrode and a second pixel electrode formed thereon; and a second substrate including a common electrode formed thereon, wherein the second substrate is spaced apart from the first substrate by a gap, and a voltage having an opposite polarity with respect to a voltage applied to the common electrode is applied to one of the first pixel electrode and the second pixel electrode to generate an electric field between the first pixel electrode and the second pixel electrode having a direction which coincides with a component of an electric field generated between the common electrode and the first and second pixel electrodes.
