Abstract

A device is disclosed having an elongate housing. A pair of orthogonal accelerometers and an infrared sensor arrangement are mounted in the elongate housing. The infrared sensor arrangement is configured to sense information printed on a surface in infrared ink. The pair of orthogonal accelerometers is configured to sense relative positions of the elongate housing. A transceiver is also includes in the housing for communicating the information and relative positions to a remote computer system.

Claims

1. A device comprising:

an elongate housing;

an infrared sensor arrangement mounted in the elongate housing and configured to sense information printed on a surface in infrared ink;

a pair of orthogonal accelerometers mounted in the elongate housing in a plane normal to an axis of said elongate housing, the accelerometers being configured to sense relative positions of said elongate housing; and

a transceiver mounted in the housing for communicating said information and relative positions to a remote computer system.

2. The device of claim 1, having an ink device cartridge and a stylus mounted side by side within the housing, the ink cartridge and stylus configured to be individually brought forward through an open end of the housing by rotation of a top portion rotatably mounted on an end of the housing.

3. The device of claim 2, wherein the housing includes an infrared photodiode configured to detect displacement of the stylus or cartridge in the housing to enable a determination of a force being applied to a nib of either the cartridge or stylus.

4. The device of claim 1, further comprising a radio antenna mounted within the housing, said radio antenna being in signal communication with the transceiver.

7. The device of claim 1, further comprising a nib and a controller circuit configured to calculate a distance from the nib to the surface.
