Abstract

A non-radioisotopic method measures Free T3 and/or Free T4 in a sample of a non-human species, which can be a canine.

Claims

1. A non-radioisotopic method of measuring thyroid analytes comprising:

a. obtaining a patient sample from a canine species;

b. incubating the sample with a non-radioisotopic label detectant; and

c. measuring T3 in the sample of the canine species using a first non-radioisotopic label as the detectant,

d. measuring T4 in the sample of the canine species using a second non-radioisotopic label as the detectant, and

e. separately measuring Free T3 using the first non-radioisotopic label as the detectant, and measuring Free T4 in the sample of the canine species using the second non-radioisotopic label as the detectant.

7. The method as claimed in claim 1 including treating the patient sample with a non-radioisotopic precipitating or binding agent to precipitate or bind respectively the Free T3 or the Free T4 thereby forming a complex of precipitated or bound Free T3 or Free T4 respectively;

measuring respectively the Free T3 or Free T4 in a supernatant or surrounding fluid after precipitation or binding or removal of the complex, the measuring being by fluorescence;

or chemical tagging.

8. The method as claimed in claim 1 including treating the patient sample with a non-radioisotopic precipitating or binding agent to precipitate or bind respectively the Free T3 or the Free T4 thereby forming a complex of precipitated or bound Free T3 or Free T4 respectively;

measuring respectively the Free T3 or Free T4 in the precipiate after precipitation or binding or removal of the complex, the measuring being by fluorescence;

or chemical tagging, or measuring a mass.

9. The method as claimed in claim 1 including employing chemiluminescence, and including a bioluminescent detector and microparticles as a solid phase.

10. The method as claimed in claim 1 including the measuring being with a sensitivity more sensitive than 1 picogram per mL.

11. The method as claimed in claim 1 including the measuring being with a sensitivity more sensitive than 1 picogram per mL and up to about at least about 1 femtogram per mL.

12. The non-radioisotopic method as claimed in claim 1 wherein a r-squared value of T4 relative to Free T4 is between about 0.75 and about 0.99.

5. A non-radioisotopic method of measuring thyroid analytes comprising:

a. obtaining a patient sample from a canine species;

b. incubating the sample with a non-radioisotopic label detectant;

c. measuring Free T4 in the sample of the canine species using the non-radioisotopic label as the detectant, and

d. measuring T4 in the sample; and

e. wherein a r-squared value of T4 relative to Free T4 is between about 0.75 and about 0.99.

13. A non-radioisotopic method of measuring thyroid analyte comprising:

a. obtaining a patient sample from a canine species;

b. incubating the sample with a non-radioisotopic label detectant;

c. measuring Free T4 in the sample of the canine species using the non-radioisotopic label as the detectant, and

d. employing direct chemiluminescence, and including a bioluminescent detector and microparticles as a solid phase for immobilizing FreeT4.

14. The method as claimed in claim 13 including employing paramagnetic particles as the solid phase.

15. The method as claimed in claim 13 including having an incubation period for less that 90 minutes.

16. The method as claimed in claim 13 including having an incubation period between 15 and 90 minutes.

17. The method as claimed in claim 14 including having an incubation period between 15 and 90 minutes.
