Abstract

A housing may have a needle, plunger, and bias mechanism supported within the housing by a tab configured to retain the plunger in position and to allow the plunger to move under bias force imparted by the bias mechanism to move the needle to an insert position when the tab is removed. A base and a structure may be configured for relative movement there between and may be adapted to be secured to a user with a cannula extending through a body of the structure into the user during use of a medical device. A housing may be adapted to be secured to a user to support a medical device operable with an insertion needle, the housing having a magnifying material for increasing visibility of an injection site.

39. A medical device comprising:

a medical monitoring or treatment device configured to provide a monitoring or treatment operation on a user, the medical monitoring or treatment device operable with an insertion needle;

a housing adapted to be secured to the user for supporting the medical monitoring or treatment device during operation of the medical monitoring or treatment device;

a magnifying material arranged on the housing for increasing visibility of an injection site on skin of the user when piercing the skin of the user with the insertion needle.

40. The medical device of claim 39,

the housing having an opening for inserting at least a portion of the insertion needle;

wherein the opening is in linear alignment with the injection site.

41. The medical device of claim 39,

the housing having an opening for inserting at least a portion of the insertion needle;

wherein the opening is out of alignment with the injection site.

42. The medical device of claim 39,

wherein at least a portion of the magnifying area is located above the injection site.

43. The medical device of claim 39,

wherein the magnifying area is laterally offset to from the injection site.

49. The medical device of claim 39,

a needle inserting device configured to selectively insert the insertion needle into a patient;

wherein the housing has an opening for selectively receiving at least a portion of the needle inserting device, such that the needle inserting device is located adjacent the injection site, when the needle inserting device is received within the opening of the housing.

50. The medical device of claim 49, wherein the magnifying material is arranged adjacent the opening, at a location at which the injection site is viewable through the magnifying material.

51. The medical device of claim 39, wherein the housing has an opening for selectively receiving at least a portion of a needle inserting device, and the magnifying material is arranged adjacent the opening, at a location at which the injection site is viewable through the magnifying material.

52. The medical device of claim 39, wherein the housing has an opening for selectively receiving at least a portion of a needle inserting device, the housing is configured to be arranged adjacent the user'"'"'s skin, and the opening in the housing opens to a channel that extends in the housing at an angle that is less than or greater than 90 degrees relative to the user'"'"'s skin when the housing is arranged adjacent to the user'"'"'s skin.

53. The medical device of claim 52, wherein the magnifying material is arranged adjacent the opening, at a location at which the injection site is viewable through the magnifying material.

54. The medical device of claim 52, wherein the magnifying material is arranged adjacent the opening, at a location that is directly above the injection site.

44. A method of making a medical device, the method comprising:

providing a medical monitoring or treatment device configured to provide a monitoring or treatment operation on a user, the medical monitoring or treatment device operable with an insertion needle;

providing a housing adapted to be secured to the user for supporting the medical monitoring or treatment device during operation of the medical monitoring or treatment device; and

arranging a magnifying material on the housing for increasing visibility of an injection site on skin of the user when piercing the skin of the user with the insertion needle.

45. The method of claim 44, further comprising:

providing a needle inserting device for selectively inserting the insertion needle into a patient;

receiving at least a portion of the needle inserting device in an opening of the housing;

arranging the needle inserting device adjacent the injection site, when the needle inserting device is received within the opening of the housing.

46. The method of claim 45, wherein arranging the magnifying material comprises arranging the magnifying material adjacent the opening, at a location at which the injection site is viewable through the magnifying material.

47. The method of claim 44, further comprising providing the housing with an opening for selectively receiving at least a portion of a needle inserting device, and arranging the magnifying material adjacent the opening, at a location at which the injection site is viewable through the magnifying material.

48. The method of claim 47, further comprising configuring the housing to be arranged adjacent the user'"'"'s skin, and providing a channel in the housing such that the opening in the housing opens to the channel, wherein providing the channel comprises extending the channel in the housing at an angle that is less than or greater than 90 degrees relative to the user'"'"'s skin when the housing is arranged adjacent to the user'"'"'s skin.

55. A medical device comprising:

a medical monitoring or treatment device configured to provide a monitoring or treatment operation on a user, the medical monitoring or treatment device operable with an insertion needle;

a housing adapted to be secured to the user for supporting the medical monitoring or treatment device during operation of the medical monitoring or treatment device;

a needle inserting device configured to selectively insert the insertion needle into a patient;

a magnifying material arranged on one of the housing or the needle inserting device, for increasing visibility of an injection site on skin of the user when piercing the skin of the user with the insertion needle.

56. The medical device of claim 55, wherein the housing has an opening for selectively receiving at least a portion of the needle inserting device, such that the needle inserting device is located adjacent the injection site, when the needle inserting device is received within the opening of the housing.

57. The medical device of claim 56, wherein the magnifying material is located on the portion of the needle inserting device that is selectively received in the opening of the housing.

58. The medical device of claim 56, wherein the magnifying material is located on the needle inserting device.
