1. A method for non-invasively recording fluid pressure data for an implanted food intake restriction device, said method comprising the steps of:
- implanting a food intake restriction device in the gastro-intestinal tract of a patient;
using a working fluid in the restriction device to form a restricted opening in the gastro-intestinal tract;
determining the pressure in the restricted opening by measuring the pressure of the working fluid using a pressure sensor in communication with the working fluid;
placing an external monitor adjacent the pressure sensor; and
transmitting the measured pressure data from the pressure sensor to the external monitor.

a restriction member implanted in contact with the patient'"'"'s stomach, the restriction member having a variable fluid volume for creating a food intake restriction in the stomach; a control operatively connected to the restriction member for varying the volume of the restriction member; and a pressure sensing system for measuring fluid pressure within the restriction member and non-invasively communicating the measured pressure to the external monitor, the measured pressure being proportional to the degree of restriction formed in the stomach.
