Abstract

A method and system for expediting the rescue of victims experiencing sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) when used in conjunction with an automated external defibrillator (AED). The system involves an apparatus that calls for help (i.e. 911), detects SCA and cardiac arrhythmias, locates an AED, guides the rescuer through CPR and connection of the AED. A second apparatus is in the enclosure that contains the AED, sends location information to the other apparatus, triggers audible and visual indicators, and provides information on the victim'"'"'s location.

Claims

1. A SCA detection apparatus comprising at least one of the following:

at least one battery;

one or more electrodes for attachment to a patient;

a wire and connector for connection to an AED;

a status indication system;

a voice messaging system;

at least one controller;

controls, components and circuitry to allow wireless communications; and

controls, components and circuitry to allow GPS.

2. A SCA detection apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the device has the controls and circuitry to measure and analyze the patient'"'"'s ECG signal.

3. A SCA detection apparatus according to claim 2 wherein the device has the controls and circuitry to measure and analyze the patient'"'"'s transthoracic impedance signal.

4. A SCA detection apparatus according to claim 3 wherein the device has the controls and circuitry to measure and analyze one or more the patient'"'"'s:

temperature;

blood oxygen level;

blood pressure;

pulse;

heart rate.

5. A wireless SCA detection apparatus according to claim 2 wherein the device analyzes the patient'"'"'s ECG to determine if the patient'"'"'s heart rhythm is shockable.

6. A SCA detection apparatus according to claim 5 wherein the device determines if the patient'"'"'s heart rhythm is shockable and communicates the results to another wireless device.

7. A SCA detection apparatus according to claim 5 wherein the device determines if the patient'"'"'s heart rhythm is shockable and uses the voice messaging system to notify the rescuer of the results.

8. A SCA detection apparatus according to claim 5 wherein the device measures and stores the patient data in internal memory.

9. A SCA detection apparatus according to claim 8 wherein the device upon request transmits patient data stored in internal memory to another wireless device during non-clinical periods.

10. A SCA detection apparatus according to claim 7 wherein the device uses the voice messaging system to instruct the rescuer on the location of an AED.

11. A SCA detection apparatus according to claim 10 wherein the device uses the voice messaging system and indicators to instruct the rescuer on performing CPR.

12. A SCA detection apparatus according to claim 11 wherein the device uses the voice messaging system and indicators to give the rescuer feedback on the CPR they are performing.

13. A SCA detection apparatus according to claim 11 wherein the device uses the voice messaging system and indicators to give the rescuer feedback on CPR compression rate and depth.

14. A SCA detection apparatus according to claim 7 wherein the device uses the voice messaging system to instruct the user on how to connect an AED.

15. A SCA detection apparatus according to claim 7 wherein the device enters a silenced mode when the AED is connected.

16. A location apparatus comprising one of the following:

at least one battery;

a status indication system;

a voice messaging system;

at least one controller;

controls, components and circuitry to allow wireless communications; and

controls, components and circuitry to allow GPS.

17. A location apparatus according to claim 16 wherein the device indication system contains visual and audible components to alert the rescuer of one or more conditions when triggered.

18. A location apparatus according to claim 17 wherein the device voice messaging system instructs the user on the location of one or more victims.

19. A system for expediting the rescue of victims experiencing SCA, where in the system connects one or more devices wirelessly.

20. A system for expediting the rescue of victims experiencing SCA according to claim 19, wherein the system communicates one or more of the following on one or more connections:

information with regard to an event;

information with regard to the location of an event;

information with regard to a device;

information with regard to the location of a device;

information with regard to one or more connections.

21. A method for expediting the rescue of victims experiencing SCA, where in the method connects one or more devices wirelessly.

22. A method according to claim 21 decides which devices will connect before an event based on one or more parameters.

23. A method according to claim 21 decides which devices will connect during an event based on one or more parameters.

24. A method according to claim 21, where in the method decides that one or more devices will be used together before an event based on one or more parameters.

25. A method according to claim 21, where in the method decides that one or more devices will be used together during an event based on one or more parameters.

26. An apparatus as disclosed herein.

27. A method for expediting the rescue of victims as disclosed herein.
