Abstract

A method for automating interaction with a messaging system receives a first message from the messaging system, associates the first message with a topic, assigns the first message to an identity associated with the topic, maps content to the first message, creates a second message based on the content, and sends, via the identity, the second message to the messaging system. The first message may be screened for quality and assigned a quality score, and if the quality score does not exceed a predetermined threshold, then the second message will not be sent to the messaging system.

Claims

1. A method for automating interaction with a messaging system, said method comprising:

receiving a first message;

associating the first message with a topic;

assigning the first message to an identity associated with the topic;

mapping content to the first message;

creating a second message based on the content; and

sending, via the identity, the second message to the messaging system.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising determining a quality of the first message.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein said determining comprises assigning a quality score to the message.

4. The method of claim 3 further comprising preventing the second message from being sent to the messaging system if the quality score is below a predetermined threshold.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein said associating is based on a word within the first message.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein, if the first message contains a link, said associating is based on information found at the link.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein said mapping comprises searching for a resource related to the first message.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein the second message contains a link to the resource.

9. The method of claim 7 wherein said searching comprises using a search engine.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the second message is directed to a user that created the first message.

11. An identity controller for automating interaction with a messaging system, said identity controller comprising:

a classifier and assignment module to;

receive a first message;

associate the first message with a topic; and

assign the first message to an identity based on the topic; and

a content mapper and messenger module to;

receive from the classifier and assignment module the first message, the topic and an identifier associated with the identity to which the first message is assigned;

map content to the first message; and

send, via the identity, a second message to the messaging system, wherein the second message is based on the content.

12. The identity controller of claim 11 further comprising a quality assessment module to receive the first message from the messaging system, to determine a quality of the first message, and to forward the first message to the classifier and assignment module based upon the quality.

13. The identity controller of claim 12 wherein the quality assessment module assigns a quality score to the first message and prevents the first message from being received by the classifier and assignment module if the quality score is below a predetermined threshold.

14. The identity controller of claim 11 wherein the first message is received from the messaging system and the second message is sent to the messaging system via a programmatic interface provided by the messaging system.

15. The identity controller of claim 11 wherein the second message is directed to a user that created the first message.

16. A computer-readable medium encoded with a set of instructions which when performed by a computer, perform a method for automating interaction with a messaging system, said method comprising:

receiving a first message;

associating the first message with a topic;

assigning the first message to an identity associated with the topic;

mapping content to the first message;

creating a second message based on the content; and

sending, via the identity, the second message to the messaging system.

17. The computer-readable medium of claim 16 wherein said method further comprises determining a quality of the first message.

18. The computer-readable medium of claim 17 wherein said determining comprises assigning a quality score to the message.

19. The computer-readable medium of claim 18 wherein said method further comprises preventing the second message from being sent to the messaging system if the quality score is below a predetermined threshold.

20. The computer-readable medium of claim 16 wherein said associating is based on a word within the first message.

21. The computer-readable medium of claim 16 wherein, if the first message contains a link, said associating is based on information found at the link.

22. The computer-readable medium of claim 16 wherein said mapping comprises searching for a resource related to the first message.

23. The computer-readable medium of claim 22 wherein the second message contains a link to the resource.

24. The computer-readable medium of claim 22 wherein said searching comprises using a search engine.

25. The computer-readable medium of claim 16 wherein the second message is directed to a user that created the first message.
