Abstract

Described herein are embodiments of an electronic system that includes a magnetically coupled resonance system, that includes a first surface against which devices to be provided with power are located, and providing power to said devices on said first surface, and providing power to other devices that are not on said first surface, each of said devices receiving said power using magnetically coupled resonance between at least one high-Q source magnetic resonator adjacent to said first surface, and a high-Q device magnetic resonator in at least one device.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

a magnetically coupled resonance system, that includes a first surface against which devices to be provided with power are located, and providing power to said devices on said first surface,

and providing power to other devices that are not on said first surface,

each of said devices receiving said power using magnetically coupled resonance between at least one high-Q source magnetic resonator adjacent to said first surface, and a high-Q device magnetic resonator in at least one device.

2. A system as in claim 1, wherein said system is tuned for maximum efficiency on said first surface.

3. A system as in claim 1, wherein said at least one high-Q source magnetic resonator is tuned for maximum efficiency at a distance from said resonator.

4. A system as in claim 1, wherein said devices which are not on said first surface are inches away from said first surface.

5. A system as in claim 1, wherein said devices which are not on said first surface are feet away from said first surface.

6. A system as in claim 1, wherein said first surface is integrated into an object.

7. A system as in claim 1, wherein said first surface is parallel to a coil of said source magnetic resonator in said first surface.

8. A system as in claim 1, further designed to operate safely in the presence of human beings.

9. A system comprising:

a magnetically coupled resonance system, that provides power to devices using high-Q magnetically coupled resonance, and a device, coupled to said magnetically coupled resonance system, which is designed to operate safely in the presence of human beings.

10. A system in claim 9, wherein said magnetically coupled resonance system includes a first surface against which devices to be charged are located, and providing power to devices on said first surface, each of said devices receiving said power using magnetically coupled resonance between a at least one high-Q source magnetic resonator adjacent said first surface, and a high-Q device magnetic resonator in at least one device.

11. A system in claim 10, wherein said magnetically coupled resonance system further provides power, to other devices that are not on said first surface.

12. A system as in claim 11, wherein said system is tuned for maximum efficiency on said first surface.

13. A system as in claim 11, wherein said high-Q source magnetic resonator is tuned for maximum efficiency at a distance from said resonator.

14. A system as in claim 11, wherein said devices which are not on said first surface are less than 12 inches away from said first surface.

15. A system as in claim 11, wherein said devices which are not on said first surface are less than 3 feet away from said first surface.

16. A system as in claim 11, wherein said first surface is integrated into an object.

17. A system as in claim 11, wherein said first surface is parallel to a coil of said source magnetic resonator in said first surface.

18. A method comprising:

first powering a first device wirelessly, using a magnetically coupled resonance system, by resting said first device against a first surface against which devices to be provided with power are located, said first powering providing power to devices on said first surface;

second powering a second device wirelessly, said second device not being on said first surface, each of said second devices receiving said power using magnetically coupled resonance between a at least one high-Q source magnetic resonator adjacent to said first surface, and a high-Q device magnetic resonator in at least one device.

19. A system comprising:

a magnetically coupled high-Q resonance system, that includes a first surface against which devices to be provided with power are located, said resonance system including at least one magnetic resonator, adjacent to said surface, which couples magnetically resonantly received power over a whole area of said first surface, thereby converting the whole area into a wireless charging region.

20. A system as in claim 19, further comprising a at least one high-Q source magnetic resonator, separated from said at least one magnetic resonator, and tuned to resonance with said at least one magnetic resonator.

21. A system as in claim 19, wherein said at least one magnetic resonator is integrated into an object.

22. A system as in claim 19, wherein said first surface is parallel to a coil of said source magnetic resonator in said first surface.

23. A system as in claim 19, further designed to operate safely in the presence of human beings.

24. A system comprising:

a magnetically coupled resonance system, that includes a first high-Q magnetic resonator resonant with a first frequency, which repeats magnetically resonantly received power at said first frequency in an area of said first high-Q magnetic resonator, and a second high-Q magnetic resonator, spaced from said first high-Q magnetic resonator and resonant with a first frequency, which repeats magnetically resonantly received power at said first frequency in an area of said second high-Q magnetic resonator.

25. A system as in claim 24, further comprising a first surface against which devices to be provided with power are located, said first surface being adjacent to said second high-Q magnetic resonator.

26. A system as in claim 25, wherein said first surface is a desktop.

27. A system as in claim 24, further comprising at least one source magnetic resonator, separated from at least one of said first and second high-Q magnetic resonators, and tuned to resonance with said at least one-high-Q magnetic resonator.

28. A system as in claim 27, wherein at least one of said first and second high-Q magnetic resonators is integrated into an object.

29. A system as in claim 24, wherein said first surface is parallel to a coil of one of said magnetic resonators in said first surface.

30. A system as in claim 24, further designed to operate safely in the presence of human beings.

31. A system as in claim 25, wherein said device comprises a cellular communication device.

32. A system comprising:

a magnetically coupled resonance system, that includes at least on high-Q source magnetic resonator resonant with a first frequency, which transmits magnetically resonant power at said first frequency and

at least one other high-Q magnetic resonator, spaced from said source resonator and resonant with said first frequency, which repeats magnetically resonantly received power at said first frequency in an area of said other magnetic resonator, wherein said source resonator and said other magnetic resonator are the same size.

33. A system comprising:

a magnetically coupled resonance system, that includes at least one high-Q source magnetic resonator resonant with a first frequency, which transmits magnetically resonant power at said first frequency and

at least one other high-Q magnetic resonator, spaced from said source resonator and resonant with said first frequency, which repeats magnetically resonantly received power at said first frequency in an area of said other resonator,

wherein said source resonator is larger in its overall size than said other resonator.

34. A system as in claim 33, wherein said source resonator has a larger diameter than said other resonator.
