Abstract

An RFID transponder comprising an RFID module including an IC and a matching and coupling elements, and a plastic enclosure. An electromagnetic transmission line is coupled to the IC, said electromagnetic transmission line capable of making a galvanic, a capacitive or an inductive coupling between the IC and an external metal object so that said external metal object is able to function as an antenna of the RFID transponder.

Claims

1. An RFID transponder comprising an RFID module including an IC and a matching and coupling elements, and a plastic enclosure, wherein an electromagnetic transmission line is coupled to the IC, said electromagnetic transmission line capable of making a galvanic, a capacitive or an inductive coupling between the IC and an external metal object so that said external metal object is able to function as an antenna of the RFID transponder.

2. An RFID transponder according to claim 1, wherein the RFID module is arranged in a padlock, the mechanism of said padlock including a hook making at least a part of said transmission line.

3. An RFID transponder according to claim 2, wherein the transmission line is arranged to be disconnected when the padlock mechanism is open, and that said transmission line is closed as the padlock mechanism is locked.

4. An RFID transponder according to claim 1, wherein the RFID module is arranged in a seal, the mechanism of said seal including a bolt making at least a part of said transmission line.

5. An RFID transponder according to claim 4, wherein the transmission line is arranged to be disconnected when the seal mechanism is open, and that said transmission line is closed as the bolt is locked in a receptive space of a body part of the seal.

6. An RFID transponder according to claim 1, wherein the RFID transponder is passive one.

7. An RFID transponder according to claim 1, wherein the RFID transponder is semi-passive one.

8. An RFID transponder according to claim 1, wherein the RFID module is bent to a C-shape.

An RFID transponder according to claim 2, comprising an inner part arranged inside a canal in the housing, the inner part comprising a bottom part that is larger than the cross-section of the canal, The diameter of the canal being larger than the outer diameter of the inner part, and that the inner part comprises a first part of a rigid arresting means and the housing comprises a second part of the rigid arresting means, that the hook or the bolt in a locked state is pushing the inner part sideward such that the first part of the rigid arresting means and the second part of the rigid arresting means intermesh.

10. An RFID transponder according to claim 4, wherein the bolt comprises a metal core, and that the transmission line is arranged with a separate wire structure on said metal core.

11. An RFID transponder according to claim 4, comprising a memory, at least part of which is password-protected, an indicator for tampering stored in the password-protected part of the memory, and means for changing the state of the indicator as tampering takes place.

12. An RFID transponder as claimed in claim 11, wherein the indicator is a battery indicator the state of which is arranged to change when a battery-connection fails.

13. A process for assembling RFID transponder, the RFID trans-ponder comprising an RFID module and an electromagnetic transmission line coupled to the RFID module, said electromagnetic transmission line capable of making a galvanic, a capacitive or an inductive coupling between the IC and an external metal object so that said external metal object is able to function as an antenna of the RFID transponder, the process comprising steps of:

inspection of the RFID module before arranging said electromagnetic transmission line, and

assembling the electromagnetic transmission line in the RFID trans-ponder in the case the RFID module has passed the inspection.
