Abstract

The present invention relates to a recording medium containing moving picture data and additional information thereof and to reproducing method and apparatus of the recording medium. The present recording medium has script files including additional information about moving picture data, e.g., scene descriptive text and introduction of characters, etc. In addition, information linking each script file with a section of moving picture data to be presented with contents of the script file is included in a link data file or is contained in a filename of the script file. In reproduction of the recording medium, a script file linked with presently reproduced moving picture data section is determined and searched for based on the link data file or every filename of the script files, and contents of the found script file are presented together with the presently reproduced moving picture data. Furthermore, previously presented additional information is removed depending on data or filename of the found script file.

Claims

1. A reproducing apparatus comprising:

a user interface;

a decoder;

a display unit; and

a controlling unit configured to;

select, from among a plurality of content data, a specific content data according to an input received through the user interface,

retrieve the specific content data and a corresponding management information including linking information for associating an additional information with the specific content data and a flag indicating whether or not the additional information includes at least one specific additional information associated with the specific content data,

wherein the flag has a first flag value to indicate that at least one specific additional information is associated with the specific content data, and a second flag value to indicate that additional information is not associated with the specific content data, and

wherein the controlling unit is further configured to, in response to a determination that the flag has the first flag value;

search the additional information using the linking information to identify the at least one specific additional information associated with the specific content data, wherein a single additional information may be associated with plural content data,

retrieve the identified specific additional information,

control the decoder to decode the specific content data and the identified specific additional information,

reproduce the decoded specific content data, and

control the display unit to display the decoded specific additional information synchronously with the reproduced specific content data, wherein the decoded specific additional information includes at least one segment including information, wherein a specific segment corresponds to a specific section of the specific content data, and wherein the information included in the specific segment is displayed when the specific section of the specific content data is reproduced, and

wherein the controlling unit is further configured to, in response to a determination that the flag has the second flag value;

control the decoder to decode the specific content data,

reproduce the decoded specific content data, and

control the display unit to display the reproduced specific content data.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the linking information is a pointer specifying a location of the additional information.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the linking information identifies at least one additional information file, the additional information file including the specific additional information.

4. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the additional information file is a script file.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the flag further indicates whether or not the at least one specific additional information exists in a same stream as a stream including at least a portion of the management information,

wherein the first flag value indicates that the at least one specific additional information does exist in the same stream as the stream including at least a portion of the management information, and

wherein the second flag value indicates that the at least one specific additional information does not exist in the same stream as the stream including at least a portion of the management information.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the decoded specific additional information is displayed in a view window.

7. A method comprising:

selecting, from among a plurality of content data, a specific content data;

retrieving the specific content data and a corresponding management information including linking information for associating additional information with the specific content data and a flag indicating whether or not at least one specific additional information is associated with the specific content data,

wherein the flag has a first flag value to indicate that at least one specific additional information is associated with the specific content data, and a second flag value to indicate that additional information is not associated with the specific content data, and

in response to a determination that the flag has the first flag value;

searching the additional information using the linking information to identify the at least one specific additional information associated with the specific content data, wherein a single additional information may be associated with plural content data;

retrieving the identified specific additional information;

decoding the specific content data and the identified specific additional information;

reproducing the decoded specific content data; and

displaying the decoded specific additional information synchronously with the reproduced content data, wherein the decoded specific additional information includes at least one segment including information, wherein a specific segment corresponds to a specific section of the specific content data, and wherein the information included in the specific segment is displayed when the specific section of the specific content data is reproduced; and

in response to a determination that the flag has the second flag value;

decoding the specific content data;

reproducing the decoded specific content data; and

displaying the reproduced specific content data.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the linking information is a pointer specifying a location of the additional information.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein the linking information identifies at least one additional information file, the additional information file including the specific additional information.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the additional information file is a script file.

11. The method of claim 7, wherein the flag further indicates whether or not the at least one specific additional information exists in a same stream as a stream including at least a portion of the management information,

wherein the first flag value indicates that the at least one specific additional information does exist in the same stream as the stream including at least a portion of the management information, and

wherein the second flag value indicates that the at least one specific additional information does not exist in the same stream as the stream including at least a portion of the management information.

12. The method of claim 7, wherein the decoded specific additional information is displayed in a view window.
